So Labour want to subsidize EU students to the tune of 450 million of tax payers money. Interestingly EU students owe the UK a fortune in unpaid fees how about we ask the EU to repay that before we open negotiations?

Conservative MPs Mike Wood and Shivani Raja deserve credit for forcing these extraordinary figures into the open.
Now Labour ministers need to explain what they intend to do about them.

With £6 billion outstanding, £360 million in arrears and 43,700 EU borrowers abroad making no repayments for a year, there is a fundamental question ministers cannot duck: why should British taxpayers be asked to back billions of pounds in student loans for EU borrowers without robust guarantees that the money will come back?

And if Brussels wants greater access to British higher education, ministers should be equally clear about whose interests come first.

Before committing British taxpayers to any new concessions or financial support, the Government should explain why that money should not instead be prioritised for young people studying here at home.

Britain’s young people and Britain’s taxpayers deserve to be at the front of the queue.

Maybe out town MP could ask the question

Interesting. Especially as the way they treat our students (both parties) is shabby, mean and unfair.

Have you got a link to the detail?

The front bench Cabinet MP, don't live in the real world.

They think everyone is happy with the state of the country, anyone who stands up to their polices or shows any passion towards the Union Jack is in the wrong.

This Government clearly have an agenda to bow down to the minority in this country and don't want to upset the woke social media society, as they want them to be happy and Screwfix over any one who earns minimum wage to pay for foreign policies.
I personally think British Citizen, with jobs are fourth world citizens, we've passed the tipping point.

So while UK students get ripped off with raised interest levels on student debt our PM thinks we THE TAX PAYER should shoulder the burden and subsidize EU students. Labour the party that keeps on giving
Laura Trott (Conservative Shadow Education Secretary): Stated that British students are being put "bottom of the list" while the government considers spending an estimated £450 million to cut fees for EU nationals down to domestic levels (from up to £38,000 to around £9,535) ahead of the UK-EU summit on November 20. She criticized Labour for failing to address domestic student loan thresholds in the Budget.

They can't run a budget full stop, spend, borrow, tax until they're ousted and the next government will be seen as the bad guys when they re-introduce austerity measures to get the economy under control again.
At the recent budget Healey announced less headroom than the year before, meaning despite Reeves promise that her record peacetime taxes would be a one off to sort the economy, that we're actually getting poorer year on year. There's a simple reason, they're spending more than they're bringing in, it doesn't take an honours degree to work that out, most homeowners have been in that situation, the answer is simply to rein in unnecessary spending - it's not the Labour way.
The cost of living is going to continue to rise and we'll see more strikes as the Unions look for payback. Burnhams popularity is going to take a nosedive over this winter as he focuses on when to call and election and keep his party in power rather than making life easier for the citizens of the UK.
Feck knows what they'll sign us up to at the upcoming COP conference.

far better that £450 million be used to get kids into work and train them. this university thing has got completely out of hand with students from across the world including the uk not paying them. there has alwayd been a number coming to our universities to study but most were not a problem paying. too many places anyway but where else can they get a good brainwashing and gutire voters and mp,s.

It’s going to get worse unfortunately, as inflation is tipped to rise to 5% next year, in general it’s out of the UKs hands due to the world economy unless there is a quick end to the Iran and Ukraine conflicts.
