Best of luck to D.Challinor who’s been announced as the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday. Wish it was a different club given our history, but hope he does a good job and continues his ascent up the pyramid.

It's a good platform for him, good luck to the bloke. Hope does well even though I still think the wendies are bunch of wankers.

Given their recent history, could be a poisoned chalice.
Handy for home though.

not too sure about that. chester to sheffield is not a joumey i,d be looking forward to doing a number of times a week. if he goes M62, M1 the distance is not that much shorter than going to hartlepool and driving across the peak district in winter is something i would be thinking about all night before. could go either way for him or anybody with a fanbase that still think they are a premier league club.

Best of luck to Dave in his latest managerial role at the Wendies. Hopefully all will go well but if it doesn't he must be aware that he is always welcome to take on a proper challenge at little old Hartlepool once Pete Wild has safely returned us to League One status.

The journey from Chester to Sheffield is horrendous, especially in winter. Over Woodhead through Tintwhistle is frought with hold ups and the motorway route isn't much better. If I go to Manchester I go by train, especially to the airport cos by road you just aren't sure you're going to get there.
Interestingly it was reported this morning that there is a meeting today to discuss the possibility of building a tunnel from Sheffield to Manchester complete with dual carriageway to alleviate the journey's complications. The tunnel will be 14 miles long and the journey time is estimated to be half an hour.
That is one big task being considered, but it just shows how big of a problem the journey is when they're even considering that venture.
It really is a nightmare. My daughter was posted to Manchester for six months. She travelled Monday to Friday by train from Sheffield and back. Bloody long days.

A lot of that history certainly in the last 10 years was down to their previous owners. Not too familiar with the situation now but I understand they’ve been taken over. Think there’s massive potential there for DC to work with, sizeable fan base with a near 40k capacity stadium. It’s a higher championship/premier league level club really that’s been mismanaged to near death.

I agree but it does make me chuckle when I listen to the fans whinging. They keep asking if I'm ever going to forget Cardiff.........no chance.

Unfortunately we’ve not got the luxury of having an extensive history of promotions and top level football so Pools fans will naturally cling on to what could’ve been a sliding doors moment for us. If the result had been different that day, maybe we wouldn’t be in the predicament we are now, maybe the momentum we were building would’ve kept us going to the point we could at least have solidified ourselves in League One.

Then again, clubs like Southend and Scunthorpe made it up to the second tier and look no better off than we do, so maybe it’s all pointless mental masturbation.

If we had won at Cardiff I wouldn't have expected Pools to survive in the Championship for more than 1 or at the outside 2 seasons, but that didn't bother me.
You only have to climb Everest once for the achievement to live on in the memory forever - for me getting to see Pools play in the Championship would have been the equivalent of that.

Anyhow best of luck to Dave Challinor - and by the way Dave, do you have any nailed on certs at our level to loan to Pete Wild?

His biggest supporter at Stockport Simon Wilson is as good as head man at Sheff Wed. At least he goes in there knowing he will get decent backing and support. All the best to him and hope he manages to get them back into the Championship or even higher. He was the one shining light in years of misery for us poor barstewards.

Just had a look at the league table . A respectable 9th position just outside the playoffs. Perfect opportunity for Dave to push forward . I wish him the best of luck

Good luck to DC.
He's fell on his feet there but so have Sheff Weds.
Fully expecting them to return to the Championship in the not to distant future.

Always remembered as a Poolie Legend.
Promotion equals that.

wondered if just reaching that level started the decline. look at yeovil who did it then dropped like a stone. it would have been a sell out at the vic for most home games and the club could have gambled on a new rink end to increase capacity into 5 figures. then we,d have gone down to have our own mini white elephant. realistically pools should be a league 2 side with the odd play offs and a short spell in div.1. they would be out of place in the championship just like they are at the present level.

You have been wise to avoid it, the odd journey over can be pleasant but doing it day in and day out is best avoided. The journey over by train is quite scenic though.
DC will have some interesting confrontations if he has a fines system in place for those who are late for training etc, especially if he is last in on occasions.

Hereford reached the dizzy heights of the second tier as well.

the hope valley line across from manchester to sheffield would have been better used as a steam preserved line and keeping the proper express line under the woodhead open with its new tunnels only built in 1954.
