Came out yesterday that all theses wind turbine owners are getting compensation for turning them off as the grid can’t cope with the output and modernising it will take nearly 30 years costing billions…so much for cheaper power bills quoted by zzMillibean…wouldn’t it have made more sense to build the wind turbines alongside the construction of the grid…..or be like other countries who use gas, oil and nuclear and much cheaper…Millibean couldn’t light a barbecue, never lecture an entire country the odd ball

It depends on the contract but in general they get wether generating or not, wtf negotiated these contacts ? If they have to shut them down they also get paid for starting them up again.
Wind producers in the UK receive hundreds of millions of pounds a year—roughly £380 million annually—in "constraint payments" to switch off their turbines when the electrical grid cannot transmit the excess power, as detailed by Octopus Energy Blog. Total expenses to balance the grid by shutting down wind and turning on gas have surpassed £1 billion, with The Times noting these costs continue to climb due to transmission bottlenecks.
The U.K. needs additional power lines to transmit excess power but the greenies say the cabling has to be underground. Did no one think to invest in some form of storage before allowing the turbines to be built, I would stop any more being built until the energy companies all foreign owned I believe until they come up with a solution

The wind turbines should have followed the grid modernisation, they’ve done it backside first.
Be nice if they had a home built wind turbine industry instead of relying on imports

its fine to say that our selection process means we are looking for a person who is female or from a minority background by sexuality, colour or country of birth, but if they said they wanted a white englishman all hell would break loose. going by a discussion i had with a few strangers yesterday who actually were all white females the feeling was that actually working puts you well down the ladder for anything in benefits britain.

Yep, Andy's government is taking in record amounts in taxes and throwing it away on immigrants and benefits and trying to con the masses that they're a benevolent and fair lot with £2 bus fare caps and removing VAT from Lecky (but not other essential fuels such as gas, diesel, petrol).

And come April he will start taxing benefits but only the benefit of the state pension (which classification is disgraceful as the beneficiaries have mostly worked and contributed all their lives, whereas illegal invaders are receiving more than the state pension and they haven't lifted a finger for the country.) And politicians wonder why there are murmurings of unrest and backlash. You couldn't make it up.

He's now on about removing the Standing Charge on Gas but not Leccy.
But the biggest game changer will be changing c tax to land levy tax halfi g what Hartlepudlians pay.
I reckon there's a 99.9% chance that won't happen.

He will no doubt depend on the votes of the lazy bastads and non-english.

Supposed to be something going on across France today where 700000 police will be on the streets.

Would of been cheaper to give the students a better education.

The State Pension is classed as taxable income, I already pay tax on my State Pension Derwent and more on my Private Pension, come April because of the Triple Lock it will mean more pensions will exceed the Income tax threshold. Some thing needs to done about it like raising the tax threshold for pensioners.

Yes I know it is taxable income, I've paid the tax myself for years but they also call it a benefit and benefits aren't taxable which is why I called the classification disgraceful. We shouldn't be paying tax on it is what I'm saying. Tax on other income such as private pensions is fine as long as it is above the threshold.
I agree something should be done and I'm suggesting that "something" should be making it free from taxation.

The tax thresholds will probably not be raised but frozen for more years I reckon in the budget.
Whether a tax threshold for pensioners will be introduced remains to be seen!

Raise the tax threshold to 13100 to keep the SP tax free.

Can't see it ever being means tested.
And why should it.

Burnham and co have already peaked. The size of the deficit and therefore interest payments means that he cannot borrow more without affecting the gilt yield (interest percentage). He has very limited scope for tax rises so that only leaves cuts to public services and welfare.

His promises for the likes of defence will be pointless as they will be heavily backloaded - 3% by 2030 Healy will say. In reality that’s nothing in 27/28/29 and a hope that things will be a lot better by then and there’s a general election in the mix which allows him to really muddy the waters in a new parliament should the country be stupid enough to vote Labour again.

Ultimately he’s only got Welfare to go at and that affects badly his feckless core vote. He’s got tough choices and none of them are vote winners.

You are in agreement with the very off receiving The State Pension, for me it should be means tested but no idea where to draw the line. Is it right royalty and the very well off receive the State Pension.
It’s galling to think some have never or very rarely worked but ‘used their head’ and kept up with National Insurance Credits. Not only will they receive the full state pension but can receive Pension Credits, Council Tax rebates etc, the list is endless with out ever contributing a penny.

means testing sounds all well and good but the super rich will have paid into the system also for 40 years. just the same for family allowance that everyone gets with kids. some need more and some do not need at at all and at least one person i know just banks the amount for when there child grows up. in there eyes they have paid into the system, there parents and gtandparenrs did so whats the problem.

If you’ve paid your National Insurance all your life, you have earned your pension.
Burnham will cut Benefits but it’ll be the pensions who’ll foot the bill…?

All the parties have said we can’t afford to continue to pay the billions in benefits but none have stated which ones they are going to target and how they are going to do it ? Cases will have to be reviewed on a one to one basis, how long is that going to take ?

The State Pension should not be means tested, if it were to be then there should be an opt out for paying a percentage of NI.
Those who don't need it or don't want it can choose not to apply for it, it isn't paid automatically when you reach the state pension age, I know a couple of people who haven't applied for it.
Don't forget that as of April we'll be paying tax on the SP, and therefore the wealthier pensioners are paying more tax on their total income.
The tax thresholds should never be lower than the SP, and in fact the SP in the UK is embarrassingly low as for many it's not enough to get by hence so many qualify for Pension Credit. It's a joke to have a SP lower than the National Living Wage.
Labour have so far taken away the WFA for many, they're taking away the Triple Lock, brought Defined Contribution and private pension pots into Inheritance Tax, following on from previous Labour governments who started taxing growth within those pension funds. Labour are the party that despise pensioners, probably because we don't vote for them being long enough in the tooth to know what to expect from them, Socialists my arse!

It's in the Times Newspaper that poor oaps will not have to pay tax on the SP as their allowance 0for tax will go slightly above the 13k from April.

Now that sounds like if you don't have private pensions then you will be ok.

A sort of reward for being skint.

Simple solution don't pay into private pensions but pay yourself into cash Isa's which are risk n tax free and don't lose out in a stock market crash.

Martin Lewis is fulla shit.
KPG a lot better for advice.

But that might offend Jungle Jamie

Burnham is a wannabe dictator, he is trying to impose his will by calling for "honest conversations", there's nothing honest about the guy he's basically imposing his will and beliefs under the guise of a fake consultation. Bare faced lies to the people of Makerfield to get elected, and now to the country.
How many who voted Labour would do so again based on their tax rises, WFA removal, imminent re-opening of freedom of movement, etc????

the wounds of leaving the eu are just starting to heal so guess what he wants to open them all up again. possibly if there was another referendum he,d get his way with the new voters who have been brainwashed since then and others who have changed there minds. its not as if the country is not divided enough on all issues with everyone you speak to feeling left out.

I really don't know how he'll convince the people in the Labour constituencies that they got it wrong. He also told his own constituents he wouldn't reopen the Brexit debate. Now he says he won't reopen it in this parliament.
Like it or not Brexit is done and the UK is actually performing better than the EU and better than France and Italy. To go back in would not be reentry on the terms we had it'll be on far worse terms and cost us a whole load of pain.
The Single Market may be an option, but then how many International trade deals would we have to give up? Full membership shouldn't be on the table, besides if another Referendum were to be held then he'd have to allow Scotland another too.

Probably little gimmick benefits on the way

Then emigrate to a paradise island Estate to get away from the Boaties n other vermon he created.

he,ll never allow another referendum to take place. remember he is a socialist and its do as i say from them and control of the masses. there will be plenty across the southern half of the country and for some reason scotland who would sell their soul to get back in the club. when you have a party the liberals saying free movement is a boost for the economy when we have unemployment you know there is a problem. if you have a skill a country wanted there is not many countries you cannot enter without having to be in a club to do so. the eu i feel would love us back as we are still not a basket case like some of them are and burnham would accept this saying its a one time offer we cannot refuse. just thinking with all the non jobs that would create we might need a bit of free movement to cover them all. then if we did not become a full member we could have ties so close we might as well be one and he has nothing to sell to the country. just remember we thought starmer was bad. this mayor is worse with his bloody specs and grecian 2000 head of hair.

Try telling that to people who want to work, study or live in the EU or who are currently living in the EU, 90 days max, then you need a visa. I worked in EU countries, no visa requirement, I couldn’t do now.

France is the EU version of the Titanic..Is this one of the reasons why France,Germany and Italy are begging the UK to rejoin?

But as a percentage of the population, they are minuscule in numbers so why worry about a minority’s wish list..?

Approximately 1.2 million British citizens live across the European Union, with roughly 13,000 to 14,000 new residence permits for employment issued annually to UK nationals, hardly minuscule Snowy.
Also any U.K. Company competing for work in the EU will have get visas for their workers adding more expenses,I worked for U.K. companies in the EU pre Brexit, no visa required.
