Tranmere Rovers have parted company with Pete Wild: https://x.com/TranmereRovers/status/2053881093120471301

A manager I've personally wanted on more than one occasion, and a much better option than some of the quite frankly atrocious names that have been rumoured in the last week.

Zero chance- won't leave the north west. Probably end up back at Barra

Great interview with Rob Law, he sounds very positive but said there are things that still need sorting out, I thought that’s why Bromby were brought in, he mentioned conversations with Chris Maxwell and Lee Rust, what’s Rusts position in the club, he is not listed as an employee or is he one of the ‘committee’ ?

I think Pete Wild has been given a somewhat free reign to sort out the mess the club is in. I also think he has been given the season to get things put right, not to get relegated and get Pools back on level footing. Landon will then be able to re-assess and start again.

My worry is that Wild may leave if his patience runs out. Some of the players have let him down big time and he has every right to criticise them, I think it it fully justified given the current situation. As for these 3 players who he mentioned, will he allow them to play for Pools again? I think he will be looking for replacements fairly quickly and although he has been give the go-ahead to bring in his players, the numbers will be limited due to cash restraints. I ask Landon to make this money available, the future of our club depends on it.

We have quite rightly criticised Bromby & Co many times on this forum and they have to accept they are the ones mostly responsible for the position the club finds itself in. The players on the whole have left the club down, they have left the fans down and some are even letting our new manager down, despite him giving his best. Wild is not here to mollycoddle the players, why should he, they are here to play football, a game they are supposed to love and if they don't want to play for Wild and ultimately Hartlepool United, then they know what they can do. I am sure Wild will be telling them the same.

I also think Landon has been very naive in his approach so far, hopefully Wild remains with the club, sorts things out his own way and Landon can then reassess next summer, this time listening to people who know what they are doing!

Anyone getting on the back of Wild needs to give their heads a shake. I think he is too good a manager to be at Pools, well the Pools of today. If he walks then the club will be in an even worse mess and I dread to think what will happen. The fans need to be behind him 100%, he will work things out, his own way, not Bromby's way but his own way.

If we do manage to remain in the NL and Wild is still here, then Landon should give him the chance to recruit in the summer, bin the players who he thinks are not good enough and then we may see Pools become a club to be proud to support. The last few years have been dreadful, Landon has made a right mess of this club via Bromby, but with Pete Wild as our manager, we have a chance but we must show patience but will that happen?!?!

think wild talks like most of us does and we are closer to him than any manager in recent years and that includes challinor. problem is how many times will he take being kicked in the teeth by these players without a never ending supply of money available. Then if you are landon how much would you be prepared to throw at something when its obvious some had but the team does not help itself by throwing away sponsorship money and a possible a few good cup draws on top. neither are pools lifetime fans with for wild its a job and landon a new hobby and not a lifetime ambition.

They somehow need to resight the fire, a lot of today's supporters are here on the back of the IOR years and more latterly the DC success and Cup Runs. Nowadays it's probably a reasonable suggestion for kids to call Child line if their parents are dragging them to a match.

I would say the following players are the disrupters and need to leave.

Harris, Nolan, Popov, John, Miley, Hunter.

There was even more kids in the CK yesterday than there are in the Mill House  Wonder how many are brought by part-time dads who plan the day like this: pub-match-pub-home?

Not that too many of their lasses and ex-lasses will be bothered as long as they're out themselves swigging prosecco.

But the point is when you're winning at home and the atmosphere is good the kids, our future fans, want to keep coming. If it's the opposite they won't.

To stay up and start next season with Wildy and Smithy still here would be an excellent outcome.
Anyone wishing for more than that needs a new brain.

It’s time to build solid foundations and not the past few years hire and fire on a more than regular basis…time for a bit of patience and building a solid foundation to work from.

I don’t think we should be talking about the possibility of him walking. As fans we need to be accentuating the positive in that we have one of the best managers in this league . Wild is an engaging speaker and a pragmatic man. There are not many managers who have my attention fully and have me on board with his analysis. Everything he says I can’t disagree with and as fans we really need to back this guy to the hilt . We need him here for the long term and he knows how bad this squad is. Wild is the most charismatic manager since Challinor imo so let’s back him 100% . He knows we know the road is not going to be easy . In Wild we trust .

We not quite a club in crisis but definitely a team in crisis.

We got a manager who's gone public about how bad it is.
Even changed his 8 weeks statement to 8 months to see an improvement.

And that will create divisions of unrest in the camp. It's a workplace and just normal for these things to happen.
IWith a lot of the players who now already know they won't be here from May means they won't give 100 % or risk injuries.

And we have a lot of injuries to add to the situation.

We just have to start again from next season whether that's in 6 or 7 division.
The Chairman and today's Manager must still be here next season.
If not then the team crisis becomes a club crisis.
Players can be replaced. Thankfully most will be out of contract and Wild has the experience of this division to know who to replace them with.

It takes time to go from a holiday camp manager to an organized disiplarian one.

Rewind to our previous Promotions since 91 and them managers let the players know who was the gaffer in a fair but firm way
A tad of Patience required.

I think at the start of this season, those in charge just looked at popular candidates and automatically jumped in thinking every thing would be grandy and dandy…. without an in-depth analysis of individuals.

Yeh but where was Clark plucked from, 5 years out of English football apart from with Rotherham United last season winning only one in nine games and couldn’t stop them from being relegated.

Was Clark just a figurehead taken on under the illusion fans will welcome a known North Eastern figurehead unaware the fans are not that gullible any more…?
Not disagreeing with you Jamie, because those things you mention should have set alarm bells ringing from the start.

It's always a gamble when bringing in a new manager, some pay off some don't. The successes at Pools are very few and far between though.
Alan Murray had never managed prior to leading us to promotion, Turner was plucked from youth team coaching, Cooper from Scotland (Hartley similarly, but highlights the gamble), DC had been sacked by Fylde, etc
Let's hope Wild bucks the trend.

Clark had at least 10 managerial jobs some at a higher level than Pools so hardly a gamble. Clark wasn’t plucked from the lower leagues like Challinor, Cooper nor Turner. Ironically his son Bobby plays for Derby County after being on loan from Red Bull Salzburg last season.

Of course Clark was, like they all are, a gamble. Maybe a bigger gamble than some but still a gamble.
We keep rolling the dice but...............????

still think fans are taken in by a NE connection. just need to look at players and managers some would ;ike to see at the club and its very ne based. all you need to look at clark was the clubs he had and any success he brought. it always ended with his sacking.

thing is many fans must be sick of another wasted season with another one next to build the foundations for promotion in 2029. thats if everything really goes to our plan and other clubs plan better. the mass walk out after there fluke second goal is not a sign fans do have patiance. teams do comeback with 20 minutes to go fairly regularly even if it aint pools.

That was always my opinion it was because he was NE based like cattermole. I do still think some fans fall for the north east bollocks but when you realise what players and staff at our club are from up here or have deep connections to the area you realise they are a big part of the problem. Clark, Beach, Clayton, Liddle, Fisher, Gibson, Hunter, Miley, Charman,Mckeown, Harris, Hugill. I’d personally only want one of those at the club next season and would argue 4/5 of those need kicking out asap.

Got to admit I'm wondering why Charman got another contract after missing half of last season through injury. He's had another injury already this season and so far has only started one NL game for us.

He played 60 minutes against Newcastle U-21s last Tuesday and 'wasn't well' enough to make the squad against Marine. It's by no means the first game he's missed through illness with Pools. Worse, I'd have money on him getting crocked again before very long.

A good point. When the opposition score first we always lose. As I recall, the only time we have actually scored when behind on the score board was McKeown at Sutton when we were 2-0 down. Does that suggest a lack of backbone? Are all of our opponents so good that their defences are impregnable when defending a lead? I dunno. In Pete Wild we trust.

Miley equalised against Alty before Tom Crawford scored a late winner. Harris pulled one back at 2-0 during the Worthing home defeat. Nolan equalised against Toon U-21s on Tuesday... be fairer to say that apart from the win at FGR we just don't score enough goals in any game.

The club like Higgy said a few weeks back is just going round in circles.
Getting nowhere fast.
And now us fans are doing the same.

It's like the Magic Roundabout.
I mean the Trajic Roundabout.

Just shows my memory isn't what it was, although I never would count the scores in the NL Cup as the bulk of the players in those matches are youngsters: not really a first team fixture as far as Pools are concerned. We have lost nine league matches and one FA Cup tie this season and have scored in three of them. We have only equalized once in those ten first team matches so my point about lacking backbone still stands, in my view.

At least the Magic Roundabout gave you pleasure…all I see is a wilderness of indifference on the pitch that I can’t recall encountering before….if players aren’t prepared to put a shift in, then as my mate Freddy would say…’you can feck right off’.
I have never been so disappointed in a squad of so called ‘professionals’.

There's a great quote from Clough on the video of Saturdays match, "Give your all for the shirt and you'll be remembered for ever". How many can say they're doing just that? This current squad will be forgotten soon enough, whereas I cann still remember the like if Ken Ellis, Kevin Dixon, Roy Hogan, Billy Ayre, and many others who weren't the most talented players but their effort and commitment could never be faulted.

How many pre war ex pros do you think are alive today, Accy. Someone born in 1939 would be around 87 now. You would be looking at people who are now well over 100 if they were playing pre war. :o

derwent, I think accrington meant at that time, so they would have made their comments in the 70's and 80's about the current crop of players then.

There's a great quote from Clough on the video of Saturdays match, "Give your all for the shirt and you'll be remembered for ever". How many can say they're doing just that? This current squad will be forgotten soon enough, whereas I cann still remember the like if Ken Ellis, Kevin Dixon, Roy Hogan, Billy Ayre, and many others who weren't the most talented players but their effort and commitment could never be faulted.

different era like everything else life and attitudes are different. ask a pre war ex pro about those players they,d moan about there ability.

How many pre war ex pros do you think are alive today, Accy. Someone born in 1939 would be around 87 now. You would be looking at people who are now well over 100 if they were playing pre war. :o

Our shower play like they were born in 1939.

I did consider that. I thought I'd offer the opportunity to explain if that's what he meant.

I totally agree that Pete Wild is a charismatic manager, an engaging speaker and could potentially become one of the best managers in Pools long history. However, I do not believe that he should be above criticism in respect of the team's current plight. A week or so back Wild was advising the fans not to have a go at the players as this would have a negative impact on their performances. Yet following the pathetic performances of certain players during the Marine fiasco Wild was publicly decrying players efforts (or lack of such).

At the end of the day surely it is the team manager's responsibility to find a way of getting (and keeping) his players onside and encourage them to produce the goods week in, week out. Man-management is after all a key management skill in any walk of life, not just professional football. I would love to see Pete Wild get his players to give their all, die for the club, turn the season around starting on Saturday but from what I've heard and read the requisite fix ain't gonna happen overnight.

It makes one wonder how Landon Smith views the current dismal situation from his 4k distance having already hit the 'reset button' on several occasions in respect of Hartlepool United FC.
