This from the OS (re-arranged a bit for clarity):

HUFC XI: Fisher, McNally ©, Harris, Charman, Sheron, Penman, Nolan, Thornton, Darcy, Bondo, Clark.

Substitutions: Thompson, Conyard, Eccleston, Penprase, Ilunga, C.Smith, Popov

Pete Wild has made eight changes to his Pools starting line-up for tonight’s National League Cup tie against Newcastle United Under-21s.

Max Clark makes his first start for the Club, after featuring off the bench in last weekend’s 4-2 win against Forest Green Rovers in the Enterprise National League.

Reiss McNally, Luke Charman and Nathan Sheron all retain their places in the lineup following the trip to Forest Green.

New signing Sam Lavelle is unavailable for tonight’s clash. Meanwhile, Cole Deeming and Jack Earing are cup-tied after featuring for their parent clubs in the competition earlier this season.

Jamie Miley, Cam John, Corey McKeown, Max Merrick, Max Kouogun and Owen Hampson remain sidelined.

Wondering what has happened to Benn? Not in the injury list but not in the squad. Didnt feature in FGR squad either.

Oh I see. I guess the official site simply forgot to include him the injury list. Thanks for the reply Mr M.

7 o'clock kick off. Newcastle took an early lead but Jack Nolan has just equalised. Hope tonight's the night he rediscovers his goal touch.

I see Jamie and Lewis Mileys younger brother Mason is playing for the Mags tonight.

Blistering post-match interview from Pete Wild on the Red Radio: https://x.com/dannyhufc/status/2110115594632884600

Says he gave some squad players the chance to show what they could do and they failed the audition. He's looking to bring in more players, including on or two from Newcastle's U-21 side potentially.

Wonder how him and Chris Beech are getting on? He obviously thinks our pre-season recruitment was crap!

how many times over the years have we seen these squad players not taking there chances when given. is it they are just not good enough or they cannot be arsed and think there is always another club around the corner. cannot blame em too much for having that attitude as they know quite well somebody somewhere will give em another chance if they want it.

There's always a risk of reading things into comments that might not be there. McNally, Sheron and Charman all started on Saturday. Harris, Nolan and Thornton were all second half substitutes.

I think the comments were most likely aimed at the likes of Bondo, Penman, Darcy and Fisher- real fringe players at the present time.

From the match report in the Mail, there is a suggestion Fisher could have done better for the second Necastle goal.

TBH I don’t like to see people losing their employment but appears Pete Wild is doing the recruiting, is there a position for Beech at the club now ?

Yes Wild said he expected more from Tuesdays game, particularly players on the fringes. He said what some have communicated on here, not fit enough and are about 3 weeks away. Pete said were not aggressive enough and no quality in the final third against the Toon. He also stated there was loads to do. It seems pretty obvious to me that the amount of loanees he wants, indicates that he thinks the overall quality is not there. Sounds like Marine are a really good side and if we dont show the same attitude as FG we could be in trouble . I like Pete Wild though . Honest guy, comes across well and whatever happens this year we need to invest in him. Need to forget promotion for now and trust Wildes vision and instinct. Certainly the guy has taken on more than what he expected. I trust the guy and he articulates well. Good luck guys on Saturday . Just give everything and believe in ourselves. Will be listening on Tees

Deffo this 100 %.
It's called faceing up to facts.

It's horrible to write off anutha failed Promotion attempt.
But Wild has more or less confirmed it after the Newcastle match.

But I genuinely believe we can finally scrape into next seasons top 7.

Wildy has to still be our Manager for next season.

To be honest they've been wheeling out various members of the squad over the last few months all saying those classic lines such as "we need to step up to the mark", "we need to kick on", "we know where we need to improve" and "we need to all pull together" and the FGR game aside they haven't been able to do any of it. I thought they might beat the teenagers from Newcastle during the week (as most of them were) but they didn't, so I'm hoping they do step up to the mark tomorrow, unfortunately I reckon we've got quite a few pampered prima donna's in our team who basically are spoilt/lazy and can't string two decent games together. I'm more than happy for any of them to prove me wrong.

when you have players in the squad like that it makes a banana skin of the game tomorrow. There will be little to choose in the players ability apart from there lads will be doing a proper job on top of playing part time. some might never have got the chance to go full time to be a spoilt prima donna and will love to get one over them if they show any weaknesses. a defeat tomorrow could mean some of the weaker ones will have short pools careers as i cannot see wild putting his arm around them and mopping up there tears.

Mopping up what tears? To cry about a result you have to give a flying feck. I sense that one or two in blue and white are not too bothered. There's always another club. I sincerely hope I am wrong. Even if I am I think Wild will weed them out.
