we re not going to in them all and even with normal service at aldershot nothing will be decided in august. might help playing them at the right time for us instead of the other way round where they seem to be on a mini run when we go down there.

I have a feeling we did well down there when Sweeny was in temporary charge.

We have played Aldershot Town 7 times away since they reformed, all in the National League:

We have lost the last 3 visits there!

I am finding the game a difficult one to price up, let alone place a bet on the match!

The Shots game will be useful barometer as to how good or otherwise Pools are. This is the first tough away test this set of players have had to face so it will be very revealing. I would like to think we have enough quality to win down there but..........this is Pools.

I think relegated Barrow did not look like a side that will struggle in the NL and I expect them to finish well in the top half of the table so I will be disapponted if we do not come away from Aldershot with something. Unlike previous seasons we look capable of winning 50-50 games due to the extra firepower seen in the first match.

Agree about fire power. Both goals were superb in their own way. Harris for his poise, timing, control and accuracy and Nolan for his opportunism. Cant think of many Pools players of the last couple of decades who could have scored a goal like that: seeing a split second gap and being quick enough to get an accurate shot away. Really promising for the season ahead.....not getting carried away.....honest

think we have had players that could have scored a goal like that but the main difference is that they,d need 5 or 6 chances to do it.

True and probably they would stop trying. I just think that in Nolan and Harris we have two highly capable and confident footballers in attacking positions which bodes well. By the way, I am not suggesting the other forward players are inferior, they just havent had the chance to shine yet.

I was on a course in Aldershot around 80/81 and Pools were playing there so I went along with a very tidy WRAC.

Pools were battered from start to finish and ended up winning 2-0

thats true. how many times have we all said about a team who were top of the league who came to the vic and won saying how the hell are they top of the league and could not watch that every week.

Classic example.
When we were in league 1 v Burton about 14 years ago.
They were nothing special but beat us 1 0 with a late winner.
Me Mate Ste a Burton fan come up for the weekend on the drink.


And somehow they went on to win Promotion to the Championship.

There's different ways to win games as I reckon we Gunna find out.

can see us being a team thats hard to beat but has the ability to nick a late goal especially away from home. we could be that central midfielder short as some say, but there will be money available if needed i,m sure.

Hopefully via an FA Cup run.

Honestly believe under Smithy it would get reinvested back into the team.

I despair sometimes at those who define a successful season as playing with a team of football Flashearts who win 7-0 every week home and away…we know it doesn’t work like that, mores the pity, but it’s all about the points, by hook or by crook because that’s what gets you promoted.

What happened in previous encounters is irrelevant….we are a different outfit now and expectations are higher and rightly do.
Nothings guaranteed and it’s early doors in the season, but a bit of confidence is possible for a change.

A better team through better recruitment gives us a better chance than previous seasons.

Lets be honest we were pretty shit last week but ground out the 3 points.

I reckon the team gels about October when the results are good with better performances.

last weeks game will hardly go down in the memory as vintage pools but one thing about the game was the feeling we were going to score both goals and not let one in either. might have been the weather but i was more relaxed than i have been for years when anything wrong was going to happen.

will tomorrows game be televised live at 3pm. know there is saturday blackout but that seems not to apply if the greedy money makers are not playing.

All August league fixtures are being televised live by DAZN, so yes for tomorrow.

Bought our tickets and train travel to be at Aldershot tomorrow. COYB.

I tend to avoid forecasting anything for the first month, especially with a brand new team and management,….but my expectations are definitely higher up the spectrum for a change

Saw the 6-1 loss in 1989 and then the revenge 5-1 win in 1991. Absolute joy that evening.

This is my second closest fixture after Woking. I'm away and not able to go. Therefore a nailed on away win, especially after the loss last season.

I think we’re just starting the gelling process with a new team so forecasting is a lottery…although it always has been.
Seems the trend is to build a team one year and start off on fire the next year …I could settle for instant success quite comfortably.

Not really much between the teams . Both lacking quality in final third . Alderdhot had the best chance of the match . Again it’s a physical game like last week . Aldershot dominating midfield. No end product from our strikers . Got to be more creative if we are going to be challenging . Commentator enjoying the game more than I am . Early days still.

Not a classic by any stretch but after a sustained spell of real pressure we managed to nick a great goal to win the game.
Disappointed with Ecclestone going anywhere near their player from behind in the area. Thankfully Dinanga did well for us (again) with one of the worst penalty kicks I've ever seen.
2 games, 2 wins, 2 clean sheets - wait until we start playing football!!

Solid performance from the back 5 . In particularly our goaly . We will be hard to beat need more quality with the final ball. Still a win is a win

I thought we looked a lot better when Sheron came on. Our keeper was very confident and Mcnally and Kougan where both excellent in central defence. Well done to Corey Mckeown scoring on his league debut!

like last week a very forgettable game but we have 6 points on the board. better than being unlucky in memorable games and we have sod all to show.

Finding a way to win without playing well is what good sides do, potentially we could be a very good side.

aldershot could be the top of all those stats apart from the only thing that really matters. goals scored. my only worry is if we do play like we have done in the last two games will the novelty ware off and gates actually drop even with good results.

Thought the Aldershot commentators on DAZN were really good, with none of the usual fanboy home bias. Agree with them that Pools did enough in the second half to deserve the win.

Shots had a few good young players, especially their left winger, who had the beating of Benn time after time in the first half. For me Eccleston should be first pick right back.
