This is the same guy who's apparently spent the last 6 years fighting the HMRC to avoid a £4.9 m tax liability according to reports. I used to like him but he's become another one of those do as I say but not as I do hypocrites.

If him and the others who have signed the letter want to pay more tax, HMRC has a donations portal that they can use. I'm not sure what the letter achieves, especially if it were ever proved that they chose not to use the HMRC donations portal after signing the letter

They could always donate some of their cash to various good causes which would probably be of more benefit to more people than handing it to government.

Watched a fella on The New Statesman podcast discussing wealth tax etc, he said very difficult to implement but suggested setting a website up where anyone who has over a £1million could opt out of receiving The State Pension.

Afraid that bloke is talking bollocks. Throughout the Muslim world they pay Zakat - a mandatory religious duty in Islam - all adult Muslims (and businesses) who possess wealth above a certain sum pay over 2.5% of their accumulated wealth every year. So it can be done. I spent five years doing tax returns in Saudi-Arabia and it isn't too complex - although the Saudi tax authorities (DZIT) also took 2.5% off foreign businesses (in addition to the revenue based taxes).

If I had mega wealth I'd certainly be donating to what I deemed to be worthwhile charitable causes, would I feck be volunteering to hand any extra to any government to squander on the idle, the feckless, lunatic policies, etc

How difficult is it to set up a different tax band for the mega wealthy then. Labour's done it before in the 70s as I recall with effective rates of 90 odd percent if memory serves me right. It's Fecking easy enough to set up the tax system to squeeze us till the pips cry so I'm sure it would be easy to get more out of those at the top of the wealth tree.

just closing all the legal and illigal tax loopholes would be a start. we might give a bit to the charity of our choice like dogs trust with us. however we have paid tax on that amount and the mega rich buggers use that to lower there tax femands.
