Apparently they’re consulting about charging a tax of up to £300 for local goverment to charge those who holiday in the UK.

You'd expect that the majority of people who decide to stay at home would be lower earners and their families so Labour the party that said they wouldn't raise taxes for working people once again looking at backdoor ways of doing just that.
On top of that the hospitality sector is on its knees so that'll be another hit for them.
Meanwhile the wealthy just keep getting wealthier and fly off on their 5 star foreign holidays whilst paying minimal taxes. I suppose it's what happens when your political party for the workers and the unions themselves are run by by millionaires.

The government don't want you to go anywhere really, they don't want you to fly, drive, cycle or move out of your village or town/city. It's okay for the elites to travel but not the plebs, wealthy people holiday in secluded villa's and exclusive holiday complexes that the rest of us could only dream of staying at, all inclusive of course. Wouldn't put it past this lot to introduce a walking or running tax next. Utterly despicable, most people just won't bother holidaying now, I personally have not been abroad since 2020, a combination of many things, but to be honest haven't missed it because I love holidaying in this country. If it's too expensive to holiday here I just won't bother.

have not been on holiday since the end of covid due to firms trying to get the money back they lost when we were banned from travelling. it wasn,t my fault the pandemic existed and the buggers are not getting my money to offer less for more.

Aknow they will be charging people to park at shopping centres next.

Airports, Minging hotels ( might look good up front), Dodgy food, Foreigners , Sounds like a nightmare.

You get what you pay for, where are the minging hotels you mention with dodgy food and foreigners, what’s the matter with foreigners, you a racist, sounds like you have you never been abroad very much. Over the years of holidaying and working abroad I only ever had one minging a hotel in Greece nor experienced dodgy food, can you suggest a U.K. destination with an affordable hotel ?
You sound like the little Englander who goes abroad looks for an English type pub serving English breakfast and not prepared to integrate with the locals, Benidorm would suit you.

I am speaking from my experience of over 40 years holidays abroad which I worked hard for, a holiday in Europe and working abroad. My last stay in a hotel the one on the front (MH)on Seaton, £120 a night for a room that looked like it hadn’t been refurbished since the 60s.

Well I always enjoy a few pints when I'm abroad, people watching,, and the last thing I would want to see would be lady boys pestering you for free drinks all day.

There is no standard definition of a holiday, everyone has different tastes…people like what they like and that’s their business.
There are holidays I’d avoid like the plague, but it’s none of my business what people do …… providing it’s legal…. so criticising other people’s holidays is pointless

Your perception of Thailand and ladyboys is so wrong obviously listening to ‘bar stool talk’/ gossip watching biased documentaries, have your ever been too Thailand ? I have been coming to Thailand for nearly 12 years and never been pestered by ladyboys. Yes they are ladyboys but the majority work in normal everyday jobs, supermarkets, banks, shops etc. You must have some riveting holidays if all you do is sit in bars people watching and drinking beer.

Always found food in Europe ok, I especially like German food, but tastes vary according to people’s perceptions…I tend to avoid big label outlets and pub chains in this country.
I recently tried a place on an airfield I first intended to go to in 1992 but always carried on past and tried it two weeks ago and found out what I’d been missing..fresh food well cooked…..while food may not be minging, the word ‘bog standard’ might not give you food poisoning, but it didn’t satisfy…go somewhere where that’s independent.

Never sat on a nice promenade enjoying a pint or two???..Well nobody is going to fleece me of my life savings where i go,that's for sure...

I know I often read that the country is on its knees and everyone is broke but four of us went to the Hull v Middlesbrough match yesterday along with 35000 from the Boro and I would say the average cost would be £250 each so that’s people from a deprived area can pull out that cash. I get people prioritise what they want to spend on but maybe things are not as desperate as some think. Hull isn’t exactly Hampstead either. The match was the worst bit of the day.

football is like boozing and gambling. people somehow always find the money for it. add the OTT christmas celebrations and even a picnic is not flasks and sandwiches anymore. its a full scale event big shop which includes the disposable barbeque.

The hospitality sector is on its knees..It's mostly pensioners that come down here, and god help them if they have a weak bladder,it's a pound each visit on the seafront,card only..

The locals in Benidorm integrate very well with the brits when they're taking our money.What is it with you and an English breakfast??..You'll be telling us what to eat next!

Just saying what the average English person eats when they go abroad, I couldn’t see them eating paella, pasta, local delicacies etc like the locals do for breakfast. From my experience no matter where you are in the world 9 times out 10 you will see English breakfasts advertised albeit some examples of English breakfasts are nothing like them, the worst being hot dog sausages and spam.

Loads of times sat on beach side bars, nobody ever fleeced me, many here have been fleeced by Thai partners/wife’s buying property, foreigners can’t own houses 100% here so they put the property in their partners/wife’s name. Some have gone back home come back to find some one else living in the house, it’s been sold, very simple to sell property here, doesn’t have to involve solicitors.
