The Poolie Bunker

Respecting each other's individual opinions on the bunker. It gets way to serious on here at times if you have a different opinion to others WHY I promise to respect your opinions and often say " I respect your opinion etc " please allow me and others to have one also. Mutters is a friend of mine and we have completely different views on Starmer / Labour / Trump / Wars / twats and good people. We give each other some shite over it but do not fall out for having a different opinion. I love a wind up on here but when we have a serious subject it would be great to debate it rather than slam that posters point of view. Afterall isn't that in our DNA called free speech.

Aye, just a good old slogfest of opinions………it’s like throwing bricks in a pond and seeing who can make the biggest ripple.

It just seems like if your opinion does not match others they try to slaughter you rather than exchange views and opinions.

You take no notice and crack on…..if you believe in your own viewpoint, carry on.

Isn't that a old Army saying " Carry on regardless " or am I getting mixed up with carry on films with Syd James and Co.

Only offensive if you take it serious.
I've said before put us all in the same pub lounge and we all be one big happy Bunker family.

True Kev that's technology for you.

Nah, cliques would form and there'd be scrapping by the 6th pint I reckon. Probably over lack of chips on sale in the ground or so.ething equally important.

"If I had an argument with someone from The Bunker, we would sit down for 20 minutes, talk about it, and then decide I was right."

Is that you Brian

Carry on Up (in) the Conference!

Oooooh Maaatron!

The late great Brian Clough although didn’t he pinch someone else's quote.

Thought you would have the misses n kids out on a spending spree after hearing about the potential huge pay rise of 2.8%.

Aye

"Rome wasent built in a day, But if i were in charge it would have been"

First I've heard about it, will help fund some new leather elbow patches for my Tweed Jacket and a much coveted new pair of Farrah slacks for the Bunker Extravaganza in North Cemetery-
'Oooooh, Yes Sir, I can Boogie!'

Just checked and the 2.8% rise is unfunded, which means any rise will have to come from existing budgets. So I'll be voting against it, when I'm balloted by the Union.

100% Leggie

Thats all well and good but if you've nowt to back up what you're saying then I'm not going to sugar coat it when I call BS.

My take on the Bunker is that it is for each giving their opinions and reading the opinions of others.
Anyone who disagrees with someone's opinion who then thinks that they can argue and change that opinion is wasting their time.

Met him many years ago he is a lovely man very down to earth but mega pisshead.

Only offensive if you take it serious.
I've said before put us all in the same pub lounge and we all be one big happy Bunker family.

i wonder. feel the days are long gone when mates took the piss out of each other on any subject you can imagine. everything now is so bloody serious no matter where you are. cant say this cant say that just in case. must be the only generation who as they get older say that we have never had it so bad.

But you take everything seriously…as I said to CoCo and the rest of the clowns during our break in the Big Top.
Your Rennie bill must be buckling yer.

It IS serious. You know inside out what happens when the balance of the world gets all out of skew.

No, people are making it serious in the most naive manner.
The Cold War made everyone cautious, rightly so.
Fall of Soviet bloc and we got our peace dividend ……but the world got more dangerous.
Anyone back in the 80 ‘s would have crapped themselves at the mere thought of assaulting Russian Territory..
Now we have politicians telling the Ukranians how much kit they’re gonna send them…… crazy
Despite this urgency Starmer offers an increase of his .2% in three years time, seriously….??… a bit like Churchill in 1940 planning to spend more on defence…… in 1943…comic opera.

Agree

Respectfully no. The cold war was about balance, not paralysing fear of the Soviets. What do you think kept them at bay? What do you think keeps Putin at bay? Now consider what Trumps decisions mean to the balance in Europe. We'd better redress it is all I can say. I know you are a fan of realism. I like to give Liberalism a chance but it does have its limitations which we've now reached and in comes realism. Peace through strength. We need to spend and form allegiances, Ukraine included. I agree, 2.7% isn't enough, neither is 3%.

End of the Cold war and Western Government’s were ditching so pending on defence and been cutting ever since…it was party time for them.
My outfit was disbanded with indecent haste but I’d gone in a couple of years earlier.
These things can’t be replaced overnight, but politicians are shithouses when it comes to defence…oops I missed out windbags and that applies to ALL politicians.
Now they’ve lost all sense of the danger and blithely talk with gay abandon of backing Zelenskyy…but somewhere down the line the fighting has to stop and talks take place…..fighting to the last man is not the answer when the opposition can afford to fight to the last man.

It’s unfortunate, but it’s realpolitik
All wars end…putting faith in a motley collective of reluctant European governments is not the answer because it’s window dressing.
If talks take place now, the Ukrainians are talking from a position of strength because they’ve proved they can contain Russian power and would make the Russians wary of repeating the exercise again after their losses………l
Offering to debate puts Ukraine on the moral high ground in world opinion…asking for more weapons to carry on is not the answer.

Talking about Ukraine and Russian peace talks I just watched the " full 40 minutes" of the meeting rather than the snippets from biased western media. I suggest if interested everyone should watch it in FULL. In my opinion it clears up a lot of the shite that's getting peddled.

Russia have only suffered the losses through Ukraine managing to get weapons. If that threat goes, it's game on for them once again. No deterrent. I think Ukraine are prepared to write off territory but Russia has backed down in NOTHING. They even want land that they don't hold right now including Kerson city where they've only recently been liberated. There are people behind this despite the daft disproportionate focus on Zelsky. Millions of Ukrainians who don't want war but don't want to be Russian, value their democracy and won't give up on that. Russia is offering nothing and has shown they can't be trusted unless you're speaking their language, strength.

So just keep up the slaughter of innocents, many of those dying are not patriots or courageous they're f*cking kids dragged off the streets to die in a war that can't be won.
The only person who is consistently and persistently pressing to stop the war is Trump, we need far more effort in getting seats for Europe and Ukraine around the negotiating table. Europe is not strong enough or united enough to influence the war, but they can influence a peace process.

agree 100%.

100% PTID. What a strange feeling I am getting because that's twice in 24 hours I have agreed with you 100%. Now where did I put my meds.

You've dragged me down to your level Leggie lol

Or maybe kick the foook out of each other after a few bevvies.

Or maybe I dragged you up to mine and woke you up to the real World.

WHOOooooa…. as long as it’s not in the same bed…..

but never in the woke world.

That’s why they heed to talk…..Biden wasn’t taken seriously by the Russians and why we are where we are, he positively oozed confusion.
If people are just gonna keep saying we can’t trust the Russians we’ll keep on fighting till the last man standing falls….crack on …..but then you’ll still have to talk.

Biden was a total liability Yes still have to talk after millions more innocent people needlessly die in vain. I bet the British Military are not at all up for this nonsense of a war.

I would be interested to know how many posters on here have kids or grankids that could be called up to a war. And how many are petrified at that very real possibility happening. And how many who are happy with this crap to happen actually have kids / grankids it that age group. The reason I ask is surely if you do have them in that age group the last thing you want is war for them. Maybe some of you only have young kids or no kids and are looking at this from that point of view. But for me personally it's a potential nightmare I never want to happen. And if some of you think it's the only way forward please give your heads a wobble

We never learn, Iraq, Afghanistan, wars we should never have been involved with. How many young lives lost in a futile attempt to change those far away countries?
Ukraine will always have conflict on its border with Russia, it's been going on since the fall of the Soviet Union.
Do any of us want any more lives to be lost, never potentially British lives fighting a war that is unwinnable?

I recall watching a Xmas episode of Top Gear and it was filmed in the the Middle East at Xmas….one stop was in Damascus, ….and despite being run by a ‘tyrant’ the streets were bustling, the people well fed and dressed and prosperous judging by the cars and traffic…in one cafe a load of men cheered as they watched Top Gear on TV……… yet Obama found it necessary to start the Arab Spring and it went downhill from there…they stand in the rubble of their freedom now.
Why does the West not realise that other cultures have different values to us and just leave them alone…..?

They will never ever leave them alone thats totally off the radar. It's always about money / profits and grabbing other countries treasures.

yes, and just because we and the western world dislike the idea of being run by a tyrant or a dictator it does not mean other countries do not and expect things being like that.
