No result is clear cut, so that’s a risk….but I’d take exception to my MP standing down to accommodate him or any other MP in any Party.

Only if Starmer allows him to although if he does it could be egg on Burnham face if he loses then a Reform candidate becomes the new Mayor, what couldn’t go wrong ?

think a reform mayor of greater manchester is more likely than burnham not being elected as an mp in a strong labour area. if reform get the right candidate to stand and labour go down the road of fielding an ali or a mohammed it could really go wrong for them. then burnham becomes PM but what real difference will it make. the labour leopard is not going to change its spots.

Just had a week watching the boats down at Southampton and Pompey and it’s odd how you find little gems of places to pull into purely by accident and not surprised why people keep nice places off the radar to ‘visitors’.
While I was there being a ‘passenger’ up front in a chunky 4x4 my ‘driver’ was using his sat nav to do the rounds and I showed him how to get to some places because I’d been doing it for years…on returning back he insisted on using his sat nav as it.promised a much shorter route….it was shorter alright..but it wasn’t faster and driving though assorted farm yards down stopping places single track back roads wasn’t exactly fun

they call places and establishments like that hidden gems. those living there and have shops and cafe,s do not want tourists to upset the locals who provide a decent life for them. once advertised and the hoards arrive the prices go up and the rip off start. not just for the tourists but for those living there. had all this when i lived in hemsby having to pay what i called the tourist tax. mentioned to the leader of the parish council residents should get a local card for discounts. he looked shocked at that saying we could never do such a thing as it could upset tourism. so we suffered for 52 weeks because someone came down for a week.

Passed a place with cafe at an airfield and back in the day always promised to go in but never did….well this time I did and realised what a fool I was for not going in before….really basic food cooked properly with decent ingredients.

GB news and Farage..I'd expect them both to be looking into Burnham's time as mayor for a bit of mud slinging, jamie?

What he didn't do for the homeless..Maggie Oliver's opinion on him..Where do they start?

We all know there will be mudslinging, the research is probably ongoing now but one things for sure he never took gifts from a non resident who was so patriotic he changed his name to Thai and also a crypto millionaire saying (Farage)it was initially for security now saying it was a reward for his 27 years in politics and securing Brexit.
As a matter of interest Boris Johnson stood as an MP and won a seat whilst he was the mayor of London, can Burnham do the same or has the rules changed ?

Has Farage broken any rules? If it was a gift and not a political donation it doesn't matter if it came from a Thai lady it who used to be called Albert and came from Timbuktu.
I'd imagine the Parliamentary watchdog will be a bit more thorough than Durham police into Starmer and Angie's session during COVID eh?
I'm pretty sure one of the reasons give for blocking Burnham last time was that Labour didn't want a disruptive Mayoral election in Manchester.
Lots of media outlets suggesting Starmer won't be contesting any Leadership challenge now. Has he got a cushy EU job lined up or is he going back to his working class roots?

In black and white for you PTID although they won’t be saying that on GB News,
The Timing and the Rules: The House of Commons code of conduct mandates that new MPs must declare any financial interests or benefits (excluding regular earnings) received in the 12 months leading up to their election. Farage received the £5 million in early 2024, prior to becoming an MP.The "Personal Gift" Defense: Farage argues the money is exempt from declaration because it was an unconditional, non-political personal gift intended solely to fund his lifelong personal security, rather than a political donation. The "Reward" Comment: Complicating his defense, Farage told the press that the money was also given as a "reward for campaigning for Brexit". Critics argue this statement undermines his claim that the money was strictly for security and entirely unrelated to politics. The Investigation: The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is formally investigating whether Farage violated the MPs' code of conduct. Critics and rival politicians argue that if there is doubt regarding whether a major sum should be declared, the rules dictate

In black and white for you Jamie, if it's a personal gift it doesn't matter. If it's a donation or a payment for services or favours it does matter. Although in Starmer's case if you remember Lord Ali got a Commons Pass allegedly in return for goodies but that still didn't matter?
And again for clarity, has Farage been found guilty of breaking the rules? My understanding is that the investigation is ongoing?
Best not to hang him out to dry before the case is concluded eh?

Makes me wonder what’s in it for the MP who is standing aside, a seat in the Lords perhaps?

Should it be allowed, I don’t see how it could be prevented…..but ot’s politics at it’s most cynical and there should be no rewards as the MP’s duty is to those who elected them in my opinion.

not worth being bothered about it. if it was illegal the bloke would then have resigned on health grounds.

This could back fire spectacularly with Labour losing the seat and the Mayor of Manchester.
Meanwhile Streeting and Raynor haven't got the balls to challenge and Starmer is a lame duck weak PM as the country sinks further down the pan.

Read my earlier post PTID, Burnham can stand as an MP and still retain the Mayor of Manchester position like Johnson did when he was the Mayor of London. If he wins the by-election he has to stand down as mayor.

OK, after he was barred the last time by the NEC with them stating they didn't want the distraction and extra cost of a Mayoral election as being a reason I thought it meant he had to stand down. The NEC must have been taking it as a given that if he'd been allowed to stand as an MP he'd automatically have won the election there y triggering the Mayoral thing.
Still not going to be pretty for the next 3 to 6 months with infighting and political manoeuvring being prioritised, then if course if Burnham does become an MP they're not going to like it if Reform get the Mayoral position. Although there's speculation that Gary Neville could stand for Mayor if the vacancy does come up, that'll be like Hartlepool electing H'Angus.

Gary Neville attends all the Labour Party conferences, not sure if it would go against him because he played for Man U, supposed to be more Man City supporters live in the Manchester area and the Utd fans are from out the area.

Mogg has called for the Tories to stand aside for Reform in Makerfield although currently Badenoch has rejected it, why doesn’t he just join Reform ?

I have no party, I ‘m the floating voter, they’re all shithouses.
I never mention the bloke because I’m not interested, as you’d know if you actually checked my posts….your rent a fact posts only give you what you want to hear.

So come on, out of the closet and admit you’re his undercover loyal servant causing chaos.

Yeh the under cover loyal servant located thousands of miles away on a football message board with around a dozen members who post and a few hundred who actually view the forum.
You never mention or criticise Farage but are quick to criticise other politicians on the forum Snowy for me thwart means you like the fella and what he stands for ?

So you admit I don’t support him, but you conclude that I criticise the Government.
I do indeed criticise them because they’re useless ….I also criticised the Tory’s as they too were useless…and if Reform get into power ( dubious) I’d criticise them…what you fail to realise is I’m a cold cynic when it comes to politicians.
I’m a bystander bemoaning the last thirty years of piss poor politicians of all Party’s buggering up the country.
You can criticise no one till they’re in office…except maybe the LibDems who act like an aggressive knitting circle.

I expect those in office to perform, not those outside banging on.

Sorry to disappoint you but I’n not part of Nigel’s KGB…….,, just pissed off with those in power regardless of political leanings.

You can tell you’ve lost touch with events and the mood in general of the country.
Your ‘rent a fact ‘ system of only believing that which you want to believe is no help to your arguments.

The right wing Telegraph is the only newspaper which criticises Reform, speaking about Reform Farage has ‘disappeared’ avoiding any media contact over the last week after the the ‘gifts’ he received from his Thai based friend. He puts his laccys up for interview and they get ripped to shreds giving different answers about Farage ‘cash gifts’

I mentioned the Mirror, you aren’t the centre of the world y’know….
I was just making a point, not praising Reform.
Seek help, they’re taking you over in your cranial attic.

I am definitely not the centre of the world Snowy, it was my opinion from my travel experiences which you strongly disagreed with hence the red text. Whilst you never praise Reform you never criticise them even after the current accusations but how many on here not sure you did severely criticise Starmer for his glasses suits etc. and Rayner over her tax affairs both a drop in the ocean compared to the money Reform/Farage have received from a non U.K. resident, no one gives away that amount of money without wanting something in return.

I was aware it was a joke Snowy, I just like to keep our little feud going some times, I replied early morning when I am not at my best, not a morning person nowadays.
