So I was informed by someone down the marina this morning…anyone know why, because these things make me get very suspicious…especially has the changing rooms block near Westbrooke have been demolished.

That’s what I’m trying to find out, the wife pointed out you could always hear the players shouting on a Sunday morning but not now.

Hopefully not housing
Wasn't the land given away always to be used for recreational purposes?

I heard a rumour some months ago about some development being considered. I can remember all the pitches being occupied on a weekend but now it is not the case and there may be capacity at Grayfields and Seaton etc.
Can i start the rumour that it will be HMOs surrounded by flag poles before someone else does.

That was in August…no matches have been played there and no goal posts put up…and changing rooms recently demolished….doesn’t sound too good.
That rumour has been going around for years, but now there’s evidence…time will tell.

everytime councillors pass these places they have an orgasm thinking of the money they can make out of them. only lived where i do now for 15 years but the number of pitches that have gone is getting close to double figures. ok some where shit but they were our shit.

I'm old enough to remember when every pitch on the Rec was in use - Saturdays and Sundays - where has everyone gone?

More and more of the young generation are turning into ponces.
They would rather be sat in their bedrooms on their iphones than getting up to play football.

It would need 24 hour security or an electrified fence preferably 220 volts as the scrotts would soon destroy it.

Might as well knock the houses down in Southbrooke and Westbrooke Avenue and join the Rec to Stranton Cemetery.

Providing you don’t want to get off the drive…or back on …on match days … it’s five minutes for me too.

and older players prefer watching a game on the box or supporting a local club if they have a good oe where they live. for those who are left there are less and less willing to run the club and they eventually pack in for lack of volunteers.

If the rumour gets out that the new Vic will be built on the REC, the house for sale notices will abound in the surrounding area.
I can't see even the remotest possibility of Pools playing on there. But you never know, as the man said.

We could always try and convince the council to locate the Thai Embassy there.

Anyone know the exact location of the Park Road Ground, West Hartlepool F.C. used to play at?

Moving any matches to other locations will save a couple of bob in terms of line/goalmouth/changing room maintenance. So maybe the council will just leave it as an open space for a time but someone will come sniffing around eventually.
Great memories though.

Been there this afternoon with the dogs, just soaking it up, the huge green space…always been part of my life and the idea of it been covered with ‘little boxes made out of tricky tacky’ doesn’t bear thinking about….losing the Woody was bad enough….the allotments better watch out. :?

Did you see the ghost of Cecil M Yuill where the changing rooms used to be?

The Woody - learnt to drink in there. Exhibition and the morning after pebble dashing of the big white pot.

The 80 bob was fighting beer.
There was a barmaid we called the "juggling barmaid" as she would serve several customers at one time.Every time you ordered the same round it was a different price.

Has anyone asked the council why the goal posts have been removed, maybe no reason to have goal posts as no teams play there anymore ?

I've got an old map of Hartlepool which dates back to when Foggy Furze was the edge of town.
Rift House recreation ground is on there, and it's surrounded by open space and allotments, but there's also an Athletic Ground, rectangular in shape, just off Oxford Road, where Peebles Avenue is.
And Clarence Road has two "Football Grounds", one which is now the Vic and the other where Morrisons now stands.
Nothing in Park Road though.

The second football ground was a rugby ground used by West I suspect.
One map showed a sports ground down Burn Road, approximately on the site of the present tip.
