The Poolie Bunker

Just watching Huddersfield vs Bolton Wanderers tonight I began to recall when we played the home side off the park in their brand new stadium, eventually winning 2-0 in a League 1 fixture, live on Sky TV. That fixture may as well have been played on a different planet light years away from earth in comparison with the desperate position that the HUFC club finds itself in this week.

As many fans will recall, those heady L1 days were brought about by progressive and ambitious owners, a entirely clued up, professional chairman, well versed in EFL rules and regs. Backed up by a competent team manager, respected by the fans and a decent sized squad of quality players supported by attendances of 6k or more.

Its not possible to make a direct comparison with the utter shambles that is the Hartlepool United circus today. And yet, a return to those days or even better need not be dismissed out of hand, the catalyst for recovery being the removal of the elephant in the room which insists on digging its heels in the sawdust, pissing all over the fans via its trunk, together with a supporting troupe of clowns both on and off the pitch.

So HUFC now translates as Hartlepool United F*cking Circus, I’d pay for that on a pin badge.

Maybe some enterprising business could make up some scarves? Hey.....what about a huge banner? oh err getting carried away. Apologies.

Remember driving to the game- there was a monsoon about an hour before kick off- absolutely lashed it down and the drains were overflowing as we were driving to the ground.

Seem to remember Kevin Betsy (the greedy bastard) scored one of the goals in the end infront of the Pools fans, and The Poolies singing 'Were going to win on the Telly!' - great days

Also remember getting a parking ticket and it costing me £60 - not so great!

You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…and we seem to be getting further away than ever from those days .

more or less i for one knew those days would never last forever. it just did not feel real in the same way 20 years later our present situation does not either. one a nice dream you do not want to wake up from to todays nightmare. Lots of other traditional lower league clubs have there seasons of fun,but not many do a pools as well. At least now we have been dummed down in expectations so much that a 17th finish in league 2 equals success.
