That’s the Hartlepool United supporters club, Tywardreath branch, to be exact.
Anyone heard of them before??? I certainly hadn’t prior to meeting several of their members in the Boot and Laces before yesterdays match.
Tywardreath, a Cornish village (and rugby hotbed) has boasted a Hartlepool United supporters club since 1983, after watching a documentary in the local village pub, about struggling football league clubs, three friends decided they would pick one of the depicted teams to support, unanimously they agreed on Hartlepool united.
Since then the membership of the club has grew and the local pub regularly holds social evenings (dances, quizzes, etc) all under the banner of Hartlepool United, amazing, considering none of their members have any ties, family or otherwise to the town of Hartlepool.
Obviously living in Cornwall limit’s the amount of games the club can attend, but over the year’s the group have took in games in the south west in Plymouth, Exeter, Torquay etc and are already planning next years trip (hopefully) to watch a newly promoted Pools play at Bournemouth, one of the clubs founder members who I spoke to yesterday had also made the pilgrimage to Victoria Park.
Fourteen members made the trip to Plainmoor yesterday.
