You have to declare an interest, its debatable whether you are barred from voting.

It sounds ridiculous to me that if someone has a season ticket then they can't have a say in the future of the football club. Surely Pools supporters are in the best posistion to judge what is best. I know the council need to be seen to do what is best for the people of Hartlepool but isn't the point of this to convince the dinosaurs that the football club is a great advert for Hartlepool and they shouldn't be standing in the way of the club progressing.....?

Yes, good luck to everyone concerned. The more independent candidates of any type the better, I think, and then it's up to people whether they vote for you or not.
On Jonny's point about declaring an interest, those in power have the upper hand as usual......opposing candidates have to declare an interest, but the Council don't have to say why, eg, they oppose the sale of the Vic. Quite often in the past the Council has acted to support its own members e.g. those who ran small shops and so blocked applications from supermarkets in the 70s.

But what worries me a bit about all this is that none of us knows fully either IOR's or the Council's motives and intentions, so it's impossible to make a rational decision about who to support. (Because of past dealings with the Council I probably wouldn't support them under many circumstances, but I'm also slightly wary of IOR)

Just a bit confused to why you would be 'slightly wary' of IOR!!!!

Partly because until the issue of ground-buying came up, IOR/KH couldn't have made it plainer that supporters' views meant nothing to them. They had their reasons for investing in HUFC and supporters could take it or leave it. Well, they still have their reasons for investing and we still don't know what they are, but all of a sudden our support matters, so IOR have changed their attitude to us.

I don't mean to drag all the old controversies up again or to deny that we've ever had it so good or say I'm not grateful for their funding, but you asked why I'm slightly wary......

I think if people really want things to get off the ground both in terms of candidates and support then an open doors meeting of some sort really does need to be sorted fairly soon so that idea's can be pooled. The whole idea has to have some sort of direction.

I was going to stand as a candidate for a new party which is yet to be formed called the totally politically incorrect party as a laugh but i'd tentativly put myself forward as a poolie pride candidate but with the usual proviso of needing to know a lot more before I stand.

As far as i'm aware you need to form a political party to stand as an official candidate or you are classed as an independant candidate with no official party title on the ballot paper such as labour / BNP/ poolie pride etc.

The above open forum would indeed be a good idea but a single issue party wouldn't get far because whatever ward a candidate stands in will always have the perenial problems of dog shit, litter and anti social behaviour that is close to many peoples hearts so there would need to be policies on these type issues as well.

The plan is to form a political party, named 'Poolie Pride' it's a simple process and costs £150.

Also the single issue was a catalyst or starting point but it's long since moved on from there to a genuine Party of Hartlepool rather than Westminister.
