Watching the 66 World Cup when I was kid when we played Argentina and described them as ‘thugs’ and several other swear words which surprised me from a regular churchgoer.
Funny how they’ve never changed ….. and are apparently accepted by officials and given generous leeway on the pitch.
The first half in a league match would have resulted in multiple bookings, but last night the ref seemed to accept it and ignore their extensive collection of ‘techniques’ on display.
Second half they realised their wind up technique wasn’t winding up England and were discarded for having a go at playing football for a change.
Our resort to defending and inviting constant attacks was chancing it just too far and it nearly worked, but we were even too slow to react in changing personnel and the spawny gets pulled it off.

I really can’t get excited about playing France for third place, probably weed the garden instead.

plenty of teams from those playing on the parks to international sides have bad reputations and you get the impression that match officials know what to expect but give them some leeway. words like its only the dog and duck so what can you expect come to mind. always found mansfield more physical than most and thats over 70 years of watching football. the manager and players might be different but somehow there style never alters.

Sort of defeats the purpose of refereeing by applying different standards for certain teams…thought the referee last night was suffering from headless chicken syndrome.
Pity the referee for these big games was from countries with an extensive experience of the game, as the US is still in its infancy in my humble opinion.
Will we ever get back to playing these finals in a country with an history of playing the game instead of the way it’s going…now I wonder why

On a sad note, did anyone else spot that news story about Micah Richards father? Micah was given terrible news about his dad just before he went on air!

If Infantile gets his way and the number of teams rises to 64 will the World Cup ever be able to be played in a single timezone?

Not great at working it out but 16 groups of 4 playing games at 12:30, 15:00, 17:30 and 20:00 local time each day will take a long time to complete the Group stages

I’m waiting for the biggest bid coming one day for the most bizarre of locations…wonder if Mongolia could splash the cash to hold the Yak Finals.

if you want the countries to be reduced in number afghanistan could be a good country to play it in to kill off the interest and a few fans and players on the way.
