So Snowy you know absolutely nothing about Karl Marx as your reply shows.

He was a lecturere ,a journalist and perhaps a read of some of his books would help you appreciate just how important within history the actual man was.

Try his most famous work The Communist Manifesto or the economic and philosophical manuscripts they both may help.

The mans beliefs as wrote in the Communist Manifesto actual prove that Communism in its true form is infact the best form of government the only problem with it is that it can never actually work in practice though the theory is totally right.the fall of communism,in Russia and the USSR proves this except what people dont say is that even that was not true communism,it was probably more capatilism than Thatcher's reign in Britain in that the people in charge got more wealth and power while the so called workers got less and less nothing like what Marx(and Engels) wrote.kajira

The major flaw in Marxist Communism is in the fact he states that it is a natural evolution from Capitalism. Given he never experienced true Capitalism it's probably why he made the mistake, but it's too materialistic to be reversible, or evolutional.

If Marxist ethics were worked into society at the turn to the Industrial Revolution, it probably would've worked; there was only a very small amount of rich people, who could've been ironed out in no time. It would've halted the slip into unnecessary tertiary industry; however, you have to take into account whether or not it is in man's nature to yearn for more and be greedy (and hence Capitalist - which I think it is, but only in my sphere of understanding modern culture).

Marxism has never been reproduced, though. Leninism and Stalinism, yes - but they're more anarchist (in Lenin's case), or fascist (in Stalin's, and East Germany/GDR).


EDIT: If it would've worked anywhere though, it'd have been this country. It's small, centralised and full of natural resources. It couldn't have spread worldwide as Marx predicts, as the likes of the Japanese used our model of industrialisation to speed up their own, through trading to get the raw materials that we had and they naturally lacked (namely coal and steel).

ANOTHER EDIT: And how could he be a working class hero when his target market was the bourgeoisie (middle class)? He depended on them to understand his work. The reason there was the French Revolution of Marxism was because there wasn't enough jobs for the University-educated; thankfully the British had an Empire to ship them around to, which is another reason it couldn't really have happened here.

He was a lecturer and a journalist was he, well that confirms then the concept of 'work' really was an alien subject to him then. Your reply underlines your politically gullibility. My experiences of Marxism were not formulated sitting at the feet of some beardy lecturer or some dungaree clad harridan spouting bollox, even though I too have had to endure the ramblings of these buffoons. Sadly, he was just another fantasist with too much time to kill and the money to waste his time actually putting into print what most people know can't work because of the one thing politicians can't control ...human nature and especially the greed factor.
His so called importance in history is an irrelevance, the importance lays with the people who used his loopy dogma as a basis to kill millions playing out their social experiments. Marxism makes religion look feasible
