Interesting to see the impact of the National League introducing SCMP (Salary Control Management Protocol) this season to line up with the EFL. No sanctions for breaching SCMP this season but there will be next season. Clubs can spend up to 50% of their turnover plus 100% of their football prize money (including National League funding) on player wages. Debt cannot be included in turnover but donations and equity can.
It's going to impact the way investors put their money into clubs to underwrite losses if they have been loaning cash rather than buying equity. It's also going to impact the smaller clubs (like Wealdstone) who bootstrap themselves without investment as we just don't generate the cash to be able to provide an average sized National League budget, and this is made even harder under these rules.
