Man Utds Bruno Fernandez straight red for a nothing tackle (yellow at worst), reviewed by Var and onfield decision upheld.
Appeal upheld and card overturned. I'd guess the Appeal panel looked at them same footage as the Var team but came to the right decision rather than being afraid of correcting a howler by the ref. How can Var be so abysmally managed in England?

Unfortunately there are too many vacuous plastic quasi 'football fans' willing to throw their money at whining millionaire primadonnas to make enough of a difference.

Irrespective of the teams involved it's ridiculous that Var which was introduced to minimise refereeing errors is proving itself to be so prone to errors!
And, it will filter down through the Leagues in the next few years, so maybe not an issue for Pools just now but who knows.
It's rare to hear of technology being an issue in other high profile sports but it's an issue every week in English football.

In fairness I see your point, ….it’s killing the game.

but how the game is controlled at our level is the bigger point than VAR is. its not as if all these laws and their interpretation has made the game better to watch. whats the biggest cheer you hear at games apart from a goal being scored. a good fair hard tackle where in some games its deemed to be a foul with a yellow card issued. when good football is regarded to be a team making short passes in their own half of the pitch and getting nowhere you know the game is gone.

I used to switch off (or over) back in the days when Manure dominated English football - however those days are long gone. Nowadays I watch them as much as possible as I am guaranteed, quality entertainment watching their current squad of misfits, wannabes and has been’s struggle to regain anything near their former glory. They have had even more false dawns than Pools over recent years

The way the game was going all the red card did was give Garry Neville yet another excuse for a very poor performance.

It works extremely well in Rugby where the VAR officials simply apply the rules of the game. The VAR officials in football don't do that they apply their interpretation of the rules - last week W Ham didn't get a penalty because VAR said although the defender has hold of the strikers arm it wasn't for long enough!
F*cking apply the rules or scrap VAR, discussions after games no longer debating refereeing mistakes but refereeing and VAR mistakes so it's worse than ever and killing the game. Doesn't help when refs take turns at VAR and don't want to show their mates on the pitch up for being wrong.
I can't imagine how poor the standards will be when it filters down through the Leagues!
