mind you they could have gone through their toughest ever pre sale check up and their chassis is now next to breaking point and might become unreliable over the next 12 months. One or two are close to the end of their lives and a couple more are not the make or model that are desirable or without a history of breakdowns. then he is only the salesman and there are better run options further north.

Two weeks to kick off why ask a question like that, because in my book it ain’t complimentary…and a ball hasn’t even been kicked in anger yet.

Who is this Sarle that you speak of?

If it was Darren Sarll our manager selling a car (and I imagine most people who drive will have Indeed sold a car at some point) then I'm sure that after doing your due diligence and depending on your need and what is being sold that you would then make an informed choice.

Nothing like a bit of shit stirring before a ball is kicked in anger FFS!
Ok Norton -you can be first in telling us so (Saturday 20th July 10.44am) Thanks for your helpful insight - now run along back to the Stadium of Blight or new Ayresome whichever you normally frequent and leave us to wallow in our upcoming misery

Kind regards
Kettering

Not really any worse than other cars of uts class and age was it? Marina and Avenger spring to mind, aesthetically not too bad but mechanics and handling were horrendous - probably mitigated by the fact that they had as much power as today's bikes.

My brother had a Marina. He said it was ok but unimportant things used to fall off.

a lot of it was due to the feeling at the time that they were a downgrade from their companies previous models. actually though that the marina or ital looked really good cars in estate form but once driven you were never smitten.

The square steering wheel summed it up.

always wanted to know why they designed it like that and nobody could give a single reason how it might have helped driving it. was it a mistake in the drawing office that nobody noticed.

You can see them in the drawing office in their flowery shirts, kipper ties and purple velvet flares trying to come up with a cool idea to be different…
Square wheels were finally ruled out after millions were spent on testing proved it was bollocks but groovy.
The taking of generous amounts of recreational drugs may have influenced the psychedelic self awareness of these fuckwits to settle for a square steering wheel and a car that looked like a pie eating hunchback .
I suppose some blokes called Eric or Norman are more than pleased with their racy Stallions of the back roads as they raced to another shopping expedition at Beige World, home of the thermal underpants and Pile ointment, but they were never gonna impress the girls under 75.

its this attitude of we are british and we know the best which never helped. so many could not wait to have a pop at the citroen 2cv but after owning one i used for work it was far superior especially regarding reliablity than anything british leyland came out with. was that and its easy maintainance seen as a problem i wonder.

One of my relations was a car salesman, feast and famine, basic salary then whatever he could make on extras finance etc.He had a spell at Gales Motors in the tow, Saturday was always busy but with tyre kickers, the wife would go shopping and the menfolk wandered round the garage whiling away the time with no intention of buying a car

The wife got a Citroen Saxo as a courtesy car ….within an hour we went up to the Spotted C in Elwick and on the slope out of the car park up to the road it just to say made it in first gear…sounded like an asthmatic cow.

the reason why some never open on a weekend apart from somebody who makes a prior appointment.

unfortunetly unless you want to know how bad a vehicle could be then courtesy cars and those from car hire firms are the worst examples of any vehicle. get one of these and find a mate with a similar one they are like wreh and manni d.

Car was in for a service last week and as predicted got a call saying I needed at least one tyre, and all new discs and pads. Sure enough about an hour after leaving the dealership the call came saying precisely that, asked if the tyre was safe and legal - answer yes, asked how much brake pads were worn and was told 40% worn - told them to leave them as 60% remaining sounds OK to me. Then they said brake fluid and pollen filters need changing as due every 2 years and 1 year respectively. Surely if these are required items they would be included in the price I asked - no sir they are required but an option! WTF!!

I had a similar experience years ago, phone call, pads and discs corroded need replacing, Service person a women said it wasn’t safe to drive, the car was only 3 years old, nope don’t bother, I took it for an MOT a week later to Halfords, yep bit of corrosion on the discs but we cleaned it off.
I went back to the other garage a main dealer asked for an inspection by the Supervisor, mm little bit of corrosion but nothing serious. I asked why then did your Service Manager tell me my car wasn’t safe to drive ?

full service history done by a maindealer equals walk away. one with receipts from a back street garage means show interest.

Never take a service deal out with a Main Dealer.
They always find something that’s not covered by the warranty to sort out.
Find a decent local garage, I’ve used the same one for twenty years.

remember buying a peugeot 505 estate when my lad was an apprentice with a peugeot main agent. he told one of the older mechanics i had bought one and he gave him a list of jobs they never checked on it during servicing. luckily the bloke i bought it off was a mechanic who did his own servicing since the day he bought it.
