Have a great time - I used to see the Stranglers regularly one of my favourite & most influential bands. I can reccomend Hugh's biography, if you've not read it ask to borrow it from Phil. Hope you can give a review of the gig in a future post.

Also went to see HC last year at The Cluny, Newcastle and I posted a review on here and guess what I've searched and found that same review and also The Stranglers, so here it is! I'm assuming tonight's gig will be pretty much more of the same, but if there are any notable changes, I'll post tomorrow.....

Hugh cornwell's ..... ... bassist...watta Rock Babe absolutely punktastic.. Caroline (Caz) Cambell on the bass = WOW!!!

A great gig in a great venue... Hugh looked every inch an ageing rock hero reared on a diet of sex ,drugs and rock 'n' roll, but there's no substitute for class and quality.. playing alternate hits of Stranglers and solo peices he blew The Cluny punters away, starting with Duchess, Leave Me Alone and Nice and Sleazy, and after watching from a far (if that's at all possible in such a tight, intimate venue, I could no longer hold back and refrain from keeping myself from the throng of the 'mosh-pit' and a bold move it was too, as HC and his 3 piece band (including Cazza on bass ,now the proud owner of a leopard thong) finished with an awesome finale of Walk On By.... No More Heroes.... Sweden and Down In The Sewer!

.....It would be churlish of me to compare last night's gig with the recent Stranglers set at Durham Uni a few weeks ago, as they were both equally enjoyable in their own rite. But a note on The Stranglers, now that they've got rid of that cock sure, blonde, cockney git of a vocalist (Paul Roberts) and replaced him with Sunderland born Baz Warne who is first and foremost a Stranglers fan and having reverted back to a four piece with former Vibrator's member John Ellis no longer a Strangler, they have gone back to what they do best, performing for their hardcore fans, playing gritty numbers on a foundation of Jet's roll of the pig skins, JJ's bloody base, Dave's massive swelling organ with a hint of psychedelic guitar thrown in for good measure!
