Attacker? Looked him up online - he's a 6'2" 18-year-old who was on Lincoln City Academy's books last season, which he spent on loan at Grimsby Borough and Winterton Rangers. Only turned out for Lincoln twice, in the FA Youth Cup. Plays as a forward or in midfield.

They're all very young lads. The keeper (Foster) had 4 games in the NLN last season. The midfielder (Anifowose) had 30 odd games in the NLS in spells with Dover and Hampton & Richmond. Reddin was an academy player for Stoke last season. He had 1 game for them in the EFL Trophy.

The No7 (whoever he is) looked the best of the bunch but nothing to excite me. Problem was, as you can see by the score, very weak opposition. The official gate was 1490 and was very well organised. Well done to the club officials.

It’s all about opinions. The goalkeeper looks about 6ft 6or 7 and had a hell of a kick and the centre forward again was very big but I thought he was trying to hard to impress and was subbed. Only looked a young kid.

thats a big problem young lads have when they are trying to impress in possibly their only chance to do it. they either go into their shell or completely the other way no matter what advice they get. at least trying too hard shows they want it and hopefully by that he,s given another chance.

Anifowose is wanted by numerous national league clubs apparently, southend being one of them.

Yes agree the no7 was the best player although no one really impressed that much. The keeper looked decent and about 9" 12 inch tall  The no9 did alright he is a big strong lad.

Ha thought I was being accused of liking young lads lol.
Seriously though, under Neale Cooper the likes of Robson, Istead, Brackstone and a few others gave a bit of depth to the squad without us having to spend money.

Probably people are conscious of all the young lads who've played for us and been rabbits in headlights. Dozens and dozens. Doesn't mean we can't ever use young players but we don't seem to have much luck with them if you look at the numbers.

our own kids have been no worse in recent years than the kids we bring in on loan from clubs higher up the leagues than us. we have seen some shockers topped by the odd named trusty.

Big centre back (4) was Aaron Harper-Bailey. Released by West Brom, played twice for Kidderminster last season.
Believe 7 wasn't Adulai Sambu

It's fair enough to give all these young lads a trial but let's face it, they're all going to look good against a team at FC Hartlepool's level. How many of them will still be around next Saturday when Sarll needs to give the first team squad a run out?

I think there must of been about 7/8 trialists in this game and I doubt if many if any will be on show next week.

3 have been invited back for training this week. Probably the GK - the CB an maybe one of those attacking wingers who grabbed the goals towards the last half hour of the game.

getting these lads in would be ideal if we had a reserve team for them to grow - unfortunately when looking at young lads like this, they need to be expectational to suddenly jump into the mens game even for this level. We have taken far too many punts on kids and chancers. DS wont make that mistake as i think he knows the dangers all too well and wasting a wage isnt what we need atm.

Exactly
Even the few who disagree with ya posts should agree.
Absolute disgrace that we looking at kids v step 10 opposition.
Push the boat out to get Gatesheads best 2 players in and a proper keeper.
The lack of Ambition at this club is embarrassing.

All sorted by Friday then. sctatchinghead

What’s the obsession with Gateshead players? From what I have seen they have re-signed most of their players including Kenton Richardson and Tinkler and a couple have gone to League clubs.

Ambition ain't obsession.
Theve proven they can hack it to challenge at the top end of this division. Given there in a bit of a mess would of thought we'd of shown some interest and they wouldn't have to go through the stress of moving homes.

Is it wages?

I would have thought if you are looking at ambition it would be higher than Gateshead. Whilst I wouldn’t grumble at say Richardson and Tinkler as they would obviously build the squad but would they improve our starting eleven? It doesn’t appear that they have received offers better than Gateshead from elsewhere.

Won the FA trophy.
Finished in top 5.
Gateshead 7 Pools 1.

Tinkler out of contract so was available on a freebie.

question to ask ourselves is have the signings made already been ambitious ones or just filling up the gaps of players gone. would some be as obsessed with gateshead if it hadn,t been that result up at their place.

Having watched the match the number 11 looked useful. Probably worth another coat of looking at against better opposition.

I think there is another behind the scenes friendly being sorted - deffo 3 been invited back this week to train with the first team.

But yeh id like to see them against West Auckland and see how they get on with stronger opposition. The majority of them showed they are levels above FC at the weekend - the top 3 who finished the game just glided past the FC lads and rightly so got goals from their efforts.
May look like a whole different player though against a full time club and specially a NL one. Must be hard for DS to gauge just from training and that match.

Given the state of the friendlies we got.
Won't be easy passing judgement on these Trialists.
CVs ain't up to much like.
Must be some decent
Championship :o
League 1 n 2 players on Freebies want to sign for the Mighty HUFC.

To be fair you'd say the same about Mancini last season who had barely played. Trialists are on trial for a reason and the noise seems to be that any of these that get signed will be in addition to not instead of the 3-4 first team signings still wanted.
Agree with you on the standard of friendlies though, if they impressed against FC on saturday they will do the same against West Auckland seen as they're only the league above.

From the little of what I watched they were trying to play football not launching the ball upfield and the keeper was playing the ball out to feet.

Seems like its more than us obsessed with Gateshead players, quite a few from higher leagues seem to want 1 or 2 of them. Think most of us knew a hammering was coming at Gateshead, not sure we thought it be 7 though. The standard of football they played last year was light years ahead of what we produced and no doubt they will find more gems for this season.

Yes even when we beat them they were much the better side though people were blinded by the result
Askey was a proper manager though so set us up to give us a chance whereas Phillips was a fraud who hadn’t a clue what to do

End of the day, you’re casting a net to see if you pick a decent one up, usually you don’t, but doesn’t hurt to try.

2 further names: the 6 was Regan Riley a midfielder formerly of Bolton and Norwich, and the 12 was Edwin Essel a striker from Grimsby who's had loans at step 4.
