The latest Sarll interview comes over extremely well. He talks so much common sense. He clearly understands the game inside out. Mega impressed with what he had to say and very refreshing to listen to a confident manager who seems to know exactly what it takes. clappp clappp clappp

I was impressed as well but the only doubt that crept in was his apparent reluctance to discuss Mani D and Joe.
I might be adding two and two together here and getting 22 but I have expected enquiries at least, if not bids.
I sincerely hope I'm way off but we'll see.

I don't think he said anything regarding Joe but he did talk about Mani and Campbell playing together so I don't think Mani is going anywhere. Not as sure regarding his plans for Joe sctatchinghead

As I say I hope they both are in his plans but I just had a funny feeling that he might be holding something back. Only a hunch and I hope it stays like that.

He was asked about four of the players he inherited Joe / ManiD / Parkes and Waterfall . He said they are 4 very important members of the squad.

Sarll talks a very good game. Got to admit I'm looking forward to seeing Pools play a pressing game next season, for the novelty value if nothing else. I'm hopeful we'll make another cracking start to the season - that seems to have been the pattern at his other clubs.

The question is, can it be sustained through a 46 game season? Looking at his record with Stevenage, Yeovil and Woking, his teams seem to go on long winning streaks, but also to hit the buffers for lengthy periods

Hmmm

On the positive side he clearly has a plan of how he wants to play and is brining in players accordingly, so it’s a big step up from recent times in that respect

Not a huge fan of the referring to himself in the third person and talk of ‘size 9s in yeh backside’ can imagine that will get a little grating on players

He is right we will stand or fall on recruitinent though and he defintely knows what he wants in that respect

I do hope he shows some flexibility in approach though, slightly concerned how Mancini is going to fair, and some flexible an management will be needed there

He did say we need a keeper, Dixon is still on the transfer list, no takers.

Used to be good for Bolton apparently.
When ya come to Pools in non league and ya struggle that means career over.

Managers must go to training school because initially they all sound impressive, I remember Hartleys interview where he said he likes his teams to play fast attacking football unfortunately he forgot to sign players who could play fast attacking football.

Talk is cheap for sure especially in the football industry.
Results before talk talk as Project 25 died before it was born.

Given that last season we had managers saying the players were coached and drilled into the way he wanted them to play but they frequently couldn't or wouldn't follow instructions then I'm pleased to know he's willing to put a size 9 up their backsides when he feels it's necessary. It worked for the most successful manager in English football history with the well touted hairdryer.

Askey had no discipline. Was plain to see some players took the piss.
If Sarly has a bit of Cyril Knowles work ethic in him then that can only be a good thing.
Firm but fair to create a winning team spirit.
But we all like to think we know what's best.

Deffo more genuine optimism flying about n not false hope.
Still one game at a time.

its always a wait and see but i feel more confident of a good season than i was 12 months ago. Just hope sarll wants a good work ethic through the team and is capable of praise and bollockings when both are needed. not sure askey had no discipline but felt the world was against him and it came through to how the players performed.

As always we also need the gods who manage the distribution of injuries and suspensions to smile on us.......for a change. Mind you they always say you make your own luck so let's hope for a bit of that as well.

Askey always looked like he’d rather be somewhere else…..his body language oozed indifference, a man who really couldn’t be arsed.

Any long winning run would be welcome here, he hasnt much to beat over the last few years.

promoted teams are never unlucky and those who go the other way are never lucky. we proved this both over the last few years. always feel that the person who says you make your own luck is the one who has been lucky all their lives where even their decisions could have gone the other way without that lucky element.

a long winning run gives fans something to keep em going rather than a win one lose one can give them.

he certainly said all the right things - but ive said that same thing about all the previous managers. Only this time i feel hes done it whilst building a very good team. He knows the crack and knows what it takes to get out this league, i have every bit of hope that if we get the players he wants and also rumoured to be getting in then we should be not out of that play off area all season !

my only gripe was him saying he did not like having a large squad and likes versitile players. last season showed the problem we had with a small squad and loan players coming in.

and lets not forget we now have a bigger bench to fill too - gives the kids a chance but... if the going is getting tough or we find ourselves in a healthy position and get injuries we need to make the most of having a good bench for me. I can see the team winning the league this season having a solid bench (which wont be cheap) but will pay dividends throughout the season.
