England appear to be the favourites, some great individual players but will Southgate let them off the leash ?

Think we will see a rough outsider make the semis.

France and Germany looking likely either team to make the final for me.

England will go out in the 1/4s

Holland and Portugal for the dark horse spot for me.

Croatia cant right them off either or Belgium

France for me with Kane the highest scorer in the tournament.
I have put a bet on it.

Mr Boring Mr Clueless Mr Opportunity to win a trophy lost. The bloke is a totally negative frightened little boy type who tries to pass himself off as a tactical genius of a England manager. He would struggle to get any real praise if we did win the trophy but sadly he would be classed as one of the greats by football association.Having said that I do believe we have the best squad in the competition. I can imagine Harry Kane will be pushing the team to win regardless of the loser in charge. He will be in the players heads every minute of every day wether training or in and around the hotel. Its in Germany so Harry will be extra motivated ( also Bellingham)
and it will probably be his last chance to win England a trophy. I believe his drive influence and motivation along with a mega talented squad will propel England to victory. And don't forget we have more young players who are now winning trophies and know how to win. The likes of Bellingham & Foden are two of the very best in World football and they will use this stage to prove it and bring it home finally. "The trophy 's coming home it's coming home it's coming home the trophy's coming home ".

Only one team winning that tournament and that is zee chairmans - Even if they're shite, they'll find a way- they always do, particularly given they're at home.

We will endure our usual 'if only' disappointment- probably losing on spot kicks in the quarter final to Portugal and that horrible cheeky winker!

England are always the bridesmaid - just like watching Pools, only difference is the whole nation gets to share the heartbreak!

I reckon Germany France final which we would be very close but maybe the Germans shade it after extra time. England crash out in the quarter finals and are "unlucky" as they always are.

Although nominally the England football manager, Southgate is woke as all feck and so is the mainstream media. They go out of their way to be supportive because they all sing from the same song sheet. Notice after the Euro final debacle the mainstream focussed their energy on the the alleged social media abuse of the England players rather than the incompetance of Southgate both in his tactics and his choice of penalty takers. Whatever happens Southgate will only face the mildest of criticism if any.

think its possible that southgate is far more popular with the media and modern fans that he would have been even at the turn of the century. he might not be the man of the traditional working class fan but the man the woke fans will fawn over.

England have had a ridiculously easy set of fixtures in last couple of tournaments and had a major chance if we had gone for it. We sat back and paid the price, once we come up agaonst a good team we will be out.

Southgate hinted he will be leaving after the Euros, the FA have stated they already have a couple of options lined up, Eddie Howe for one ?

Yes, that is generally what happens. First top tier team England face in tournaments usually send England home. Night follows day. England have some world class players players but the tactics are conservative and inflexible and the England defence is not good enough.

England have some world class players when they play for their league team but as soon as they pull an England shirt on all their talent diminishes for some reason.

If you fit the FA blazer you’re in.
They don’t want the best manager, just their kind of manager.

There was me thinking that England reaching a major tourament final for the first time in 54 years - and beating Germany and Croatia on the way - was a pretty good effort. Granted we had home advantage, but we had that in the 1996 Euros too and 'only' reached the semi finals. Lucky for Southgate that social media wasn't around in 1996, or he'd have been slaughtered then too.

Is Southgate "being slaughtered"? I have no time for him and I guess some others feel the same but Southgate gets a very easy ride over all because the mainstream media are right behind him. When England fail in the current tournament I bet The Guardian will want him to stay rather than resign.

I was referring to the online trolls who think it's unpatriotic to miss a penalty kick for England. The reference to social media was the give away.

A bit like these.

think its helped southgate by expectations of england being lower than it once was. on the whole fans have a less arrogant approach to the national side where once they were expected to just turn up and every other side will roll over for them. do not hear much about we invented the game anymore. no matter who is in the job not all will be behind him and it would have been the same if cloughie had also got the job when he should have done.

I would say Southgate has had the most talented group for years, And managed to do nowt with them.

Finishing 2nd is failure with these players.

The last 'Golden Generation' of England players in the 2000s never got past the World Cup quarter-finals and didn't even qualify for the Euros in 2008. Southgate is streets ahead of the likes of Eriksson, McLaren and Capello - which isn't saying all that much because they really were duds

Check out the managerial stats for Capello and Eriksson and I'd doubt anyone would say Southgate is streets ahead. Capella was an incredibly successful manager winning titles and cups in numerous countries, Ericsson not so much but still has lots of trophies in his cabinet, Southgate is a loser so far but streets ahead in his political correctness only imo.

I wasen,t comparing him with another manager, Just think he should have won something. And still do.
So if Southgate is so good then you believe these are pretty poor players when taken from their clubs.

Imo These players are ahead of other generations
He also only has 1 tactic, Others suss that out and he and the players are fooked.

EDIT:
Southgate has stated, Going for it.

If he had done this in the past, He would have won something.

What he says and what he does may not be the same.
If he wants to go for it he needs to let the creative players off the leash, something he's never done as a club or England manager. It'll be the usual borefest whenever England are involved.

Think we will see a rough outsider make the semis.

France and Germany looking likely either team to make the final for me.

England will go out in the 1/4s

Holland and Portugal for the dark horse spot for me.

Croatia cant right them off either or Belgium

Playing it safe then.

Southgate got the job because he’s the kind of bloke the selection committee would probably have chosen as a sensible son in law….not going to cause any trouble and discreet and presentable…a bit like his style of play.
