According to a site I just looked at Hartlepool is the 50th biggest town by population. Our population was 92,600 when this survey took place at end of 2023. This has got me thinking what it is now sctatchinghead We are 5 months into 24 and I would have guessed its enlarged quite a bit with the " New" arrivals.

Not sure but it seems to be growing pretty rapidly over the last few years. sctatchinghead I was shocked to see it was over 80,000 because last time I looked 3 years or so back I recall a figure of around 79,000 sctatchinghead

in the last survey all england areas have increased in population but the north east has been the lowest. where have these extra bodies come from and its not all down to the new arrivals as the swarm is across the country. doubt the town would come 50th in a survey of public transport but easily make it on the number of supermarkets and greggs.

I am hearing lots of southern accents in the town recently.
Is there a government policy of encouraging southerners to move up north?

And before you ask yes of all skin types including white Essex/Londoners.
Many seem impressed by Hartlepool.

If you sell your house down south & move up here you can bank hundreds of thousands of pounds. Get a steady job up here & you're well set for the rest of your life.

My mate lives just outside of Godalming & comes up for a holiday a couple of times of year. He loves it up here, until a few years ago he would never have thought of coming here for a holiday, but he's now seriously thinking of re-locating!!

They certainly are…London ain’t what it used to be….. I speak to a bloke most mornings who moved to a Seaton from London…no regrets whatsoever….one of my sons says a lot of people are doing it and actually impressed.
Used to love London in the 80’s and 90’s but went with two others in 2010 to pick up someone to bring them back up here arrived early and drove around where we used to stop, but was totally shocked by the change in East London.

If the powers that be get their arse into gear and Properly sort the town centre area out it would be a really canny place.

its all down to the quality of life an what each individual wants out of it. house prices might be just a fraction of london area houses in a like for like situation but thats where it ends. gas, electric, water, fuel, rates and food will be similar and the bank balence of what they made on their old property will reuce quickly with the much lowr wages they,ll earn. Made my mistake back in 2010 when we moved to west yorkshire instead of coming back to finish my life where it started, back in the town. Just couldn,t do another move again. Serves me right for not discussing the move in the first place as her in the kitchen loves it up here but never told me then.
