Put extra layer of advertising boards around the sides of the pitch closest to the corners to stop West Brom taking long throw ins  We need to do the same to stop this long throw in crap that is a major advantage to a lot of teams.

To me that is bad gamesmanship on their part and should be looked into. An attitude of we have not got anyone with a long throw so you can not have one either.

Ah, we’re the advertisements required to be put in by the TV companies for such a high profile match…?

less long throw ins the better for me even if we had one and gained a bit of joy from it. slows the game up even more when a player has to come over to the point where the throw in takes place even before the ball drying takes place. is time added on for this stoppage as well as it seems to take longer than a corner or free kick to be taken.

Do we get hit with long thrown ins often? Don’t recall it being a major issue? And what if we want to do them? Sarll strikes me as someone who would love a long throw in!

Dave Challinor was one of the best in the business when it came to long throws. He didn't take prisoners with his tackling either. Has he ever had a long throw expert in any of his promotion teams???

It was advertising by the club for the club. Definitely it was a game plan in my opinion and it worked a treat. West Brom not happy about it and said so. Apparently it was copied from another club who had done the same to them earlier in the season. Someone finally thinking outside the box in football.

Seem to remember when Tony Bircumshaw took long throw ins he did it from a standing still without a run up. Another long throw merchant was Ian Hutchinson at Chelsea who arms went round like a windmill after releasing the ball.

true, but its overused by some teams and opponents know what they are up against before the game starts and can plan all week to combat it. its just in the past that pools had difficulty defending any ball in our penalty area and caused real panic unlike some teams who were comfortable defending.

funny you say that as that answer is no. actually his sides were not a mirror image of how he played the game himself. neither were tranmere when frank worthington was in charge of them. two different jobs.
