Just watched it, those two press hacks showed their partisan colours towards Newcastle and Sunderland and when Pools and Darlo were mentioned by Lawrie, the hacks said us and Darlo were only interested in the Newcastle and Sunderland results…Cloughie kept his power dry and brought them down to Earth with a bump.
The Tyne Wear arrogance was on full Cock a Doodle display.

Cloughie had a knack of leading people to the quicksand then standing on their heads.

Always remember him being asked what happened when a player disagreed with him.

He said “ We go into my office and talk for about 30 mins, Then decide i was right all along”

Always caught peoples attention.

I once met Cloughy. My father used to be the Chairman of the Rift House Club in 66/67 time frame. Cloughy was actually walking around the club with a pint glass shaking the glass front of customers getting donations for Pools. I got his autograph and free entry to Pools for the final of the Sunday League Cup along with about 6 other people. The old stand was still in use.

Lawrie & Cloughie should have shut Moscrop up by saying there were plenty of sub 15000 attendances at Newcasuwhen they were in the 2 nd division

So very true, the old line of the North East being a hotbed of football is well overdone and as far as they were concerned there’s only two teams in the North East…guess who
That said I was shocked when we played Arsenal in the League Cup in 95 at the Vic and all we could muster was just under 5,000, especially the talent on display that night, as Arsenal played a decent side.

If my memory serves didn't Berkamp make his debut against us sctatchinghead I do remember him playing and missing a few chances and our fans singing " what a waste of money "
think he felt a little pressure that night.

There were quite a few big names of the 90’s on show that night….
Bergkamp, Wright, Merton, Adam’s, Seaman, Parlour, Dixon, Jensen for starters , not a bad line up at all.

Was this the game where the Arsenal fans were in the town end?
If so i think they were late and missed the kick off so the Pools fans started chanting "one nil, one nil". It took the Arsenal fans some time to work out it was still nil nil and it got a big laugh from all.

it is, but can you imagine how he,d manage in todays game of agents and telling things how they are to the modern media. if people thought he was a one off back in his era what would they think of him now. political correctness, he,d have none of that bollocks.

He’d be a super star, the young Cloughie that is …..players even then were getting a bit precious too….he’s just that sort of bloke, he’d kill you with sarcasm.

I like the bit where he said "how can you start arguing with me when you haven't heard what I'm going to say?"
