Getting in the Clansman was a nightmare when it first opened, no jeans, tie needed, bouncers who actually enforced the rules…..and the restaurant was ok.

Does anyone remember a crazy bloke who always stood right at the back of the townend, left of centre with his wife. It would have been around 8 / 10 yrs ago and the years before. He was around 50 yrs old back then " sporting a mustache " and would constantly shout abuse at the players or tell them what to do. His wife must have hated being totally and utterly embarrassed every game but would just stand and watch the game. It must have been a nightmare seeing people looking at him balling and shouting and swearing from min 1 to last kick of the game winning or losing. He is the very worst pools fan I have ever seen and makes ( Loyal look like a saint  ). I often lost my temper along with a few others and told him to shut up...did it work like he'll it did. He either snuffed it or she left him and he no longer had anyone to impress. sctatchinghead

If it's the fella I'm thinking of (no it wasn't me!) Was he fat, balding, always pissed and always turned up about ten past 3, having had a skinful in the Mill House? I wasn't aware he was with a woman but he had a mate who was also normally well oiled too, though he had hair, slimmer and often wore a mid nineties replica blue home shirt (circa '95) but used to talk out the side of his mouth and up for a scrap with everybody. They were both fucking menaces - probably both in Holme House nowadays, busy arguing about whose working the press in the Laundry!

 No Kettering this knob had some hair and a fat mustache. He always stood with his back to the stand against a metal post. He was a gobshite had no knowledge of football and was basically a thug. You brought back a memory...Do you remember the " yakker " with a skinhead always wore a denim jacket and jeans. He always wore a old blue n white scarf tied in a knot around his neck. He was always pissed but never caused any bother at all. He even attended most away games and always seemed to be on his own. He would now be in his sixties sctatchinghead

There was St Hilda's in old Hartlepool and the current one still partly in use near Easington road. There was definitely a maternity hospital called Camerons near the top of grange road

I think the Grantully was the original name for Camerons Maternity Hospital and some older folk used to always use that name

Grantully was definitely a maternity hospital in Westbourne Road, just down from the Steelworks Club, I used to go to the nursery next door to it.
Looking at an old map of West Hartlepool (late 1800's), when west of Shrewsbury Street was basically allotments and farmers fields Grantully is there next door to Hughenden (the Steelworks club?) and just down the road from that old house Brinkburn.
Interestingly Camerons Hospital is there marked as a hospital so it would seem that it was a purpose built hospital rather than a converted private accomodation which it looks like Grantully was.

I think the confusion has arisen because when the grantully closed named a ward after it in Cameron’s hospital

Cameron’s was a accident hospital which I didn’t realise as one of the older blokes at work got caught between the buffers of a railway wagon and said he was taken there and he even though he insisted I had my doubts.
My brother was born in Grantully…they built those bungalows on the site in the 70’s..considered buying one, but that was the golden days of gazumping. banghead

I know that, but he insisted …he said it was in the early fifties…and he was my boss…so I don’t poke sticks at the crocodile.
I must admit I was a regular in 70’s at Hilda’s broken leg, 16 stitches after an encounter with a bottle , Knocked out falling off a platform and a couple of electrocutions , broken thumbs ribs ..I was jinxed. sadx

Right then lads here is a little information. Cameron Hospital is usually remembered as a woman's Hospital.but infact it was built and equipped in 1905 as a General Hospital,at a cost of £20,400. It was a gift to the town by the Cameron family and when it opened it provided 40 beds in one female and one
male ward, and an operating theatre. A 20 bedded children's ward was opened in 1931 as well as a veranda for the south ward. It became a training hospital in 1933. In 1955 the focus of the hospital was altered and became the Cameron Maternity and Gynaecology hospital. The hospital over the years became renowned for pioneering advances in medical and surgical techniques. The regions first GIFT baby was a success story for consultant Hugh Dawson and his team in 1989 and the Cameron team also successfully carried out IVF on the NHS patient. The hospital closed to the public in 1991 when the team transferred to the General Hospital Hartlepool.

Remember back in the 70s when Gypsy women knocked on houses around town selling flowers & telling fortunes. My mother said she had to buy flowers from them otherwise they would curse the house. Back then people where terrified of turning them away. One particular day my mam was out shopping and dad answered the door and said no thank you and closed it. The woman knocked again and he answered, she started shouting and cursing him and said she would lift the curse it he apologised and bought flowers. He told her to foook off and never come back to this house ever again or he would destroy every single flower in her stupid basket. They used to come to our street every month but for some reason never did come back to our house.
