Yes we don't have it thank God but military experts are saying our forces are pitifully short on numbers, are vulnerable as a nation should we be dragged into a conflict also asking how can we attract young people to join the armed forces in this day and age. Maybe offer certain low risk criminals the option of 2/3 years in the forces as opposed to 7/8 years in prison? sctatchinghead

Apparently we only have 73k members of all the armed forces, as someone said on TV earlier you could fit them all in a football stadium.

Typical media
Army 77,540
RAF 32,180
Navy 26,330
Royal Marines 6,510

Equals 1462,560

I'm not sure the numbers of military personnel come another "WAR" are a real worry because most of the fighting will be with drones or at the worst some form of nuclear weapon, God help us.

It’s all bollocks based on a throwaway comment by a retiring general…..misconstrued and blown up by the media as usual.
Half of them wouldn’t go into action without their backpack full of cosmetics.

WW3 if it ever did happen won’t be won by frontline soldiers/boots on the ground, they will just go round mopping up what’s left after all the long range missiles have destroyed whatever.

You could make a law if someone who is fit and healthy and keeps turning job offers down and doesn't make a concerted effort to find work will be conscripted.

I'm ex army, N Ireland blah blah and I volunteer to guard the half sand filled WW2 bunker on Crimmer beach (if its still there or visible). If Raj comes along in the dark I can challenge him with "Halt who goes there? Friend or Foe?"

It made me laugh. Britain in the next few years more pensioners than there has ever been. I won’t be leaving Thailand to fight for a country which has gone down the s*it hole because of migrants and fighting proxy wars. If the powers to be put the same amount of energy in to peace talks that they do fighting I might be more forgiving.

A few years ago I returned after 2 week holiday . I think first time met gf. Anyway journey straightforward. Going through customs Manchester I think. Just got through and this smart arsed copper I think gives me a look and says to me. Anything undeclared in your suitcase. I look at him like you do when come across a tit. And he says how many cigarettes can you bring in the country. I don’t smoke and I said 200. He gives me another stare to show his dominance an I am thinking what a prick?

Speaking as an octogenarian, it is worrying that the leader of the free world, Biden or Trump, will be 80+ for all or some of the next US term of office.

The American system for electing the president is designed to only allow billionaires to succeed which cuts down the possible candidates and hence the talented!

When I was serving in N Ireland in the 70s I sailed on the ferry from Stranraer to Belfast and going through security the Strathclyde Copper asked me "Sir what's the purpose of your visit to Northern Ireland?" This was after I had shown him my army ID card and opened my suitcase as others did to reveal underwear, clothes and whatever else. I replied "HM Forces Army." Sounds like an update of Dad's Army.

It’s a global thing about the aging population overtaking the younger population, even in Thailand families are not having kids according to a government report, couples want a career and not be saddled with kids. China abolished the 1 kid per family rule as older population was going to out number the young people.

Up until conscription stopped it was just accepted that at 18 you would be conscripted unless you were exempt for various reasons such as apprentiships until you were 21. It was the norm but I don’t think the present youth today would just adhere to this now.

doubt there would not have been some of the youth of the past who were relieved when conscription stopped. i certainly was by a few years as i never fancied the idea one little bit and would have searched for any loophole to have got out of it.

nice to hear from others who are totally truthful about conscript. in my early working days i was surrounded by these ex forces types who all seamed to have come out as sergeants but never got an answer to the question of if they loved it that much why didn,t they sign on for longer or became regulars. even those from WW2 always said they signed up because there mates did or to possibly obtain a cushy number by doing so. none of that king and country crap was never mentioned.

Seriously Sussex don’t be a nugget. Donald Trump is the most arrogant , stupid ,ignorant , sexist, racist piece of Sh*t there has ever been. He is a sociopath, narcissist and completely delusional . Only people without brains follow this guy.
He makes our politicians like Johnson seem like Einstein. Comparing him to great presidents like the Kennedys and Obama is a joke. Genuine question - How do you reconcile your disagreement to migrants (if you have one) with migrating to another country? Or have I misunderstood?

Er, would that be the Obama who created the ‘Arab Spring’ that caused all the shit were in in the Middle East now…resulting in carnage and chaos in Syria, not forgetting Libya, creating chaos resulting in the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean plus causing disruption in Egypt which they’ve sorted out themselves…eventually, yeah the guys a genius……a smooth operator and it appears you swallowed it.

At the end of the day they are all working for one side or the other and both sides are bad both sides fighting for ultimate power. But I personally would rather have Trump in power than any others. He is sort of a good bad but better option.

That’s putting it mildly, just like Uncle Joe, the man who praises his Irish ‘roots’ but turns out most of his ancestors had English roots.
Now that’s a politician at work.

I suspect that most of the problems at present are sort of down to Biden for being Biden, even after his election Putin was quoted many times mocking him and his appearance, so countries not exactly in love with the USA saw it as a sign of weakness that a country could elect such a man…..we have to recognise that most of the unrest in the world is from states that are male dominated macho chest beating retard outfits that abhor weakness.
