Speaking of films, I loved ‘A Matter of Life or Death’ featuring David Niven as the bomber pilot who should have died with his crew but was forgotten by God.

Never seen it. Does not interest me. Close Encounters was ok. Original Star Trek was good. I’m not really a big fan of CGI.

The first three Star Wars were good films, ‘cowboys in space’…but after that the boy men obsessives who never grew up kept it going when it should have been ‘euthanised’.
Mind you I only saw it because my lads were watching it.

Woody was such a push over though..the Brick Bazooka in Small Soldiers would have certainly toughened him up.

Watched the Dambusters at dinner time with two others and this is most I’ve really enjoyed it. Had a sniffle after his dog was killed and asked the sergeant to bury it as they took off.
And thankfully this was not spoilt by censorship.

I watched "Kelly's Heroes" for the umpteenth time the other day, and it is still a great film.

Very loosely based on a true story/myth, it is proper far-fetched but hugely entertaining.

It'll be "The Dirty Dozen" tonight for similar reasons. Daft as rags, but never a dull moment.

The Battle of Britain had some excellent action scenes much better than the cgi crap.

From what i have read the german soldiers were being drugged up to make them more aggressive and competitive.

It was Chester for me. Seen it many time,a great film.

The father in law never mentioned anything about being at Dunkirk till he was in his 70’s and it was little things…one that stuck in my mind was when him and his mates were captured, it was by an officer on an horse and he spoke perfect English having attended Uni in the UK, he accompanied them back to their lines and arranged some food for them.

I love an old late 80s early 90s action / romcom rubbish with Kurt Russell in it. Cant beat a Sunday afternoon after the Footy with some of that pesh on the TV. Big trouble in little china classic. Also the Goonies just to relive the youth !

I watched the 2022 remake of All Quiet on the Western Front the other night. A graphic depiction of the First World War from the perspective of a German infantryman, the film portrays the brutality and futility of war. As well as scenes of trench warfare it also charts the negotiation of the German surrender and capitulation in a French railway carriage. Highly recommended if you like that sort of thing.

Bad Day At Black Rock (love the suspense and Spencer Tracy is brilliant in it).
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (I just love a fillum with a bully in who gets his comeuppance)
Fire In The Sky (the story of Travis Walton's abduction).
The Gunfighter (1950 version, Gregory Peck is brilliant in it).

‘.No country for old men’….how odd, four of us watched it in Ireland back in 2012 and the place we were based was Dunmore East near the Irish Coastguard Helicopter base, down on the South East coast and it featured on the national news tonight as a child was murdered there….odd as it’s a very affluent place, worth a visit.

I have just begun watching the Netflix Series 'The Gentleman' By Guy Ritchie. Based off his Film of the same title.

so far so good - not sure if this is linked in anyway with the Films storyline but ill soon find out.

its really good so far and is a typical Guy Ritchie picture so if you like his stuff then this is for you !

I loved the film "The Gentlemen", but was a little disappointed last night when I watched the first episode of the TV series.

Having said that, I am experienced enough to know that I need to watch at least one more episode as the first installment of any series often spends a lot of screen time setting up the back-story of the characters and their situation.

Hope it does turn out to be a good show.

That reminds me of going to see the James Cameron version of Titanic with the Mrs and a couple of friends, and a lot of the girls and fellas around us were crying when Leo's in the water and I started laughing cause it was so bad. The wife was giving me the elbow and people were looking at us which just made me laugh even more, I think I might have spoiled it for a few folk who seemed to be right into it. By the way I'm not some hard boiled egg I cried my eyes out at the end of Lord of The Rings Return of The King but I think that might have been something to do with having seen the first 2 LOTR films with my 3 kids and knowing that as a family we probably were never gonna all be there again, my oldest 2 kids were 14 and 15 and I knew my time was up with taking them to the cinema anymore.

Certainly wouldn't be the "horror" I watched last night.

Remember the ‘watch Committee’ viewed all films thought by some to be a bit iffy….I believe they banned ‘Last Tango in Paris’…saw it in Birmingham on a course, what a load of tosh…it was hard to maintain consciousness.

good enough for them to watch it but not us. all films are past by the british board of film sensors so what was it to do with the amateurs. going on from that any old films showing great britain of the past who smashed the johnny foreigner or when they colonised places will never be seen again on main stream tele and we,ll have to rely on you tube or copies we already have to watch them.
