Blast from the past

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

Horden, Easington and Blackhall actually having pits - rather than nowadays where they really are the pits...!!l

The locals don't refer to Blackhall as Smack-hall for nowt.

The Three Arches, Jamie.

Cheers Derwent, we had a couple of after hour Saturday afternoon sessions in there, no questions asked.

I wonder how the Viz is coping with the woke agenda nowadays, the idea of ‘Sid the Transgender Advocate’ and ‘The Two Obese Condom Ladies’.is unthinkable, surely not.

You could get a drink at the Greyhound Stadium on a Sunday afternoon if the Stock Car Racing was on, we had a few good Sunday afternoon’s in there.

Steam locomotives puffing up & down the line alongside Clarence Road, with their smoke billowing over the eastern side of the ground. The engine sheds in Mainsforth Terace (shed code 51C) & the goods railway line that crossed Whitby Street & ran up to the point where Tesco's giant car park now lies, with the nearby Durham Paper Mills chimney stack.

The multiple railway lines crossing the road near the old bus depot from the docks and being able to get from the bottom of Church Street to Middlegate via the docks as kids on your bikes.

I can remember us playing Tranmere when they had Jimmy Cumbes in goal. One of those smoke billowing trains went past and from the town end he couldn't see much past the eighteen yard line. He wasn't half flapping around, probably wondering whether a shot was going to come out of the gloom
