I've never understood the game and never watched it!

Went to school in East London when it was football & cricket. The "rich" kids private school (Bancroft) did Rugby but that was it.

Consequently never got into the game and shown no interest in it.

Went to school in Hartlepool and played at school. Always enjoyed the game though not as a real life spectator. Enjoy watching games involving England on telly. Having said that, the France v Scotland game was excellent.

They got promoted the same year as Pools but then it was all downhill, Brierton Lane sold off for housing, then ground sharing with Pools. We kept all the hospitality boxes when they moved out, no idea why they moved, did they go into administration ?

Good to hear West are on the way back up the leagues. Wonder what level they'd like to be playing at?

Far superior game to football played by gentlemen rather than cheating yobbos who roll around play acting after any physical contact. Did you see some of the antics in the cup final yesterday it was joke bordering on a reincarnation of wrestling.

Pools and West both sponsored by Yuills at the same time when we got promoted.

Yuills bought Brierton Lane and built houses on it, if I remember rightly Phillip Yuill tried to get involved with the cricket club but got chased as most people thought there were ulterior motives due to the location of Park Drive.

An interesting history of West, apparently they left Brierton Lane as it wasn’t up to standards required by the Premier League so they moved to the Vic.
Interesting article re West.

Another thing I didn’t realise Hartlepool has six main rugby clubs in the town. Hartlepool, Hartlepool BBOB, Hartlepool Rovers, Seaton Carew, West Hartlepool, West Hartlepool TDSOB.

and the rules of the game which for me seem so complicated its difficult to enjoy. their game has not been infiltrated though by nations that have always loved to cheat and being physical meant holding and pushing but not hard fair tackling.

People make jokes about explaining the off side rule in footy. Imagine trying to explain the changing rules in Rugby Union regarding scrummaging and what can and cant be done at the breakdown, "jackaling" and that sort of thing? Everything seems to be going well and then for no explicable reason the ref gives a penalty to the opposition. If watching on telly there will be someone to interpret what has happened but what if you are watching a game in real life at a ground? Having said all that, there is no better feeling than watching us beat the Welsh.

Some people will go to any extreme to win a game!

Reading rugby player wins compensation over revenge tackle.
