Has anybody on here had notification of their new Sate Pension.

I thought the increase was supposed to be +10.1% but just received mine and the increase is 12.65%.

Am I just a lucky b*st*rd? Or has the Pension Service made a cock up?

Think that’s on the basic state pension, it depends on what you receive based on wether you opted out or in.

Aye, us old buggers had just mastered the biro and along came all this technology.
In our youth we put great store on buying a quarter of sweets (or more like two ounces). We bought things in pints, pounds etc and paid with pounds shillings and pence. We were measured in feet and inches, put the ball into the eighteen yard box, bought fuel by the gallon, travelled miles, called a Scot a Jock, a Welshman Taffy and the Irish Paddies.
How many times did we ask for ten bobs worth, or put a tanner in a one armed bandit. Imagine the modern generation having to rearrange like that. Now we get called racist for talking about the golliwog that was in everyone's toy box.
And that is just a fraction of the whole picture.

What about the fruit salad sweets - 4 for a penny - a farthing each.

You mention about the innocence of the golliwog, what about the rythming slang "Eeny meeny miny moe catch a n***er by his toe, if he hollos let him go"

You make two very worthy additions to my point and there are many more.

I got my codes as well and the calculation of my state pension is about £250 more than I'm expecting so I hope they're right.

State Pension, break it down to a hourly rate, barely 50% of the minimum wage, can’t imagine how some pensioners survive. You can claim additional benefits but you only need a small amount of savings and you get nought, yet some one who never worked never paid NI Contributions will get every benefit going.
I have a small private pension which I funded myself, when I contributed I received tax relief, now I am being taxed on it due to the increase in the State Pension the tax has doubled. The contributions should be reworded to read tax differed not tax relief although I am not sure you still get tax relief on contributions to a pension.

the ideal situation is the more you pay in the more you get out/ the workshy know they,ll not be left to starve so who are the mugs. on the wholw i,m quite happy with the state pension as its all i have and my lifestyle before retirement was not geared to be a saga pensioner with no interest in cruises or poncy meals out.

If I was fit and thirtyish I wouldn't want to go on a cruise, let alone my age now. Stuck on a boat with 1000+ people would drive me crazy, especially as most of them would bore me to death.

Did a Med. cruise once, 2000 passengers plus, every one said a cruise was brilliant, the most expensive boring thing I have ever done in my life, it was like being on the rigs only I was paying them, even the cabins were the same as offshore small and cramped, ok the food was better but you can only eat so much in one day.

If you’re going on a cruise you avoid the floating multi storey gin palaces…go for the smaller ones like Fred Olsen and go to some of the more interesting locations rather than the sunshine places…. I quite fancy the Baltic…..St Petersburg unfortunately not accessible anymore.

just the thought of it fills me with dread. even the food might not be to my taste either. the only plus side is i,d imagine a lot of single women aboard who might have a bob or two to keep you in the manner you think should be yours.

Dream on, no rich widows out of the 2000 plus passengers on the one I was on Norwegian Cruise Lines not that I could see. We docked everyday at a different destination, people got off, back around 5ish food then most people went to bed after the show in the theatre ready for the following day onshore. The bars were empty apart from a couple of stragglers, there was a 15% service charge on any service/drinks even though i had already paid $20 a day upfront service charge. I asked what the upfront service charge was for, it was for the behind the scenes staff who didn’t get the opportunity to get tips. The crew were Indian and Filipino, I doubt very much they seen much of the $20 charge. One last whinge, we did spend 2 full days at sea, all day do it and nothing to do, there wasn’t even enough loungers around the pool, oh there was afternoon bingo or knitting classes !

laying around a pool. its sounding worse and worse. even now off a cruise there are plenty putting a service charge on top of the bill where you can embarras yourself by legally asking for its removal. fortunety it does not occur in places i visit where service is basically if you do not like it do not come back.

no chance but the ship could stop for dinghy divers blown off course and your cabin could be requesetioned for their greater need.

I think it’s a status thing, oh we went on a cruise, on my trip one couple had done 15, the ship was mostly yanks who saw it as opportunity to visit multiple destinations in the med, Venice, couple of places in Croatia and a few Greek Islands plus mainland Greece, I did visit the Acropolis which was just a pile of rubble, they were trying to rebuild it. A yank said if it was in the States they would have it finished in a couple years ! After the visit to the Acropolis I found an Irish bar and had a couple pints of Guinness with boring Yank who was drinking like there was no tomorrow.

just thought of another boring break. canal boats, where with locks and speed restrictions its quicker to walk. used to live near canals and walked different dogs on them and you,d pass a boat at a lock and they never caught you up.

yanks are a pandemic that seem to spread worldwide without any known form of antidote.

Saw a news programme where a cruise liner from the US was going to Iceland and the Norwegian fijords….a storm warning was issued for Iceland and the Captain announced th4 ship would be going to Norway to avoid the storm….the dozy yanks demonstrated in the main lounge demanding he still go to Iceland as they’d paid to go never seen so many absolute gobshites in one place along with armchair experts in my life mouthing off…unrestrained arrogance.

When I was a kid, along with my brother we would spend a day on the Woolwich Ferry, just criss crossing the Thames. There was no charge for pedestrians and cars then (50's) and I think it still is free to this day.

I don’t recall many protests when our government decided to raise the pension age, we just sat back and allowed it to happen.

New strikes and protests from some of France’s leading unions are under way against a highly controversial pensions reform plan that has seen millions come out on the streets against it.

The proposed changes include raising the retirement age from 62 to 64 and increasing the number of years people must make contributions to receive a full state pension.

Big announcement at next Wednesdays Budget regarding the state pension.
The 68 year old scheduled for mid 40s looks likely to get ramped forward a decade. Resulting in a million odd middle agers 10 grand worse off.

Regarding Riots its a different era now.
Remember the poll tax riots in London.
That was mainly football hooligans.
Was a low crowd at Chelsea that day.

[quote="Jamie1952"]I don’t recall many protests when our government decided to raise the pension age, we just sat back and allowed it to happen.

No, because its something that does not bother you till you reach it or close to it. same as saving for old age when there is no guarentee you,ll reach it when its years in the future.

Moving it from 65 to 66 has cost me £10k less of course tax which i would have spent on petrol and beer. Given the massive taxation on these items i calculate that in reality its only saved the government £1k.
