..too late, just seen a public information film about how to dispose of your cigarette filters responsibly. Why people would have to have this explained to them mind has always baffled me. Pleased to see it all the same.

I haven't seen the film, but i'm willing to move along with the times. I wonder if something like an ash tray belt buckle would catch on ? sctatchinghead ..Or just ban the wretched things altogether and save me some money. The black market trade would never be able to keep up with the demand, problem solved.

Yes it would be nice to ban ciggies, as just spent £55 on Sovereign Dual for the wife. This will keep her quiet for 5 days. OMG how much is this costing me over the year - c£4k. Lucky I don't smoke or drink.

Apparently a good way to quit is to put something else in your mouth when feeling the need to smoke.
Therefore you could kill two birds with one stone and stick something in her mouth that stops her smoking and keeps you happy too clappp

Funny thing is, I ‘ve worked with people who were smokers who finally gave it up and oddly enough the become anti smoking zealots
If you can’t buy em, you can’t smoke em……save the NHS a fortune and anyone trying to smoke dried cabbage leaves as an option will soon give up.
Everyone in my family smoked except me, but I was brought up with my grandparents who certainly didn’t and when I caught up with my family and younger siblings at the age of nine, it was in my DNA that cigarettes were nasty….never even tried…..what was the point….wife doesn’t neither or any of kids.

As a footnote…I was at a meeting once where one of those attending smoked like a chimney…..she got her fags out and asked if anyone minded if she smoked while getting one out of the packet…I thought bollox…..call her bluff….devil appears on shoulder

Me……I’d rather you didn’t
She…..Why?
Me…….You asked, that’s why!
She…..You’re just being awkward.
Me…….So you didn’t mean it?
She……If I want to smoke, I’ll smoke…….(and lit up)
Addiction appears to trounce reason.

That reminded me many years ago when the Company I worked for wanted to stop smoking in the Offices. Being the Sales Manager I probably spent half my life in the office and the rest on the road.

Well I was in the office when the employees met in the canteen (quite large) to vote on whether to ban smoking. Just as they were about to vote a chap from the sales office decided to light up his pipe and "shower" us all with what looked like fog. Talk about taking the piss, he was lucky he didn't get a bucket of water thrown over him.

The vote ended with a ban but for the next few months there many smokers who spent 10 minutes in every hour smoking on the car park - cheeky bastards.

Yeah, had that one, trouble was management allowed smokers breaks four times a day, losing an hours work on average. :angry-tappingfoot:

My first job at 16 was based in a portakabin on a shop floor in an engineering works, at break times about 8 to 10 foreman and chargehands would come in for a cuppa and proceed to smoke the place out, cigarettes, cigars and pipes, you couldn't see it was that bad, I would then proceed to open all of the windows and even pop out to escape the fumes for 10 mins, passive smoking in the extreme.

When working on the rigs the same, smokers got special privileges, if you were unfortunately paired up with one they would be constantly disappearing to the smoking area leaving you work away on your own.

My dad was in the merchant navy as second engineer when he got bronchitis and the company arranged for him to see a doctor when they docked in New York in 1949….the doctor said he’d be ok but advised him to take up smoking a it had an ‘antiseptic effect’ to prevent any further infections and did so on medical advice….and cursed the day he did…..

Meal cabins were a nightmare in the 70’s as non smokers were in the minority and dare to mention it and they’d tell you tales of how their uncle died of lung cancer at 50 who never smoked but his brother who smoked 80 a day died age 98 when he was hit by a bus

Only 4 ciggie breaks a day! I have worked in places where smokers went for a fag break nearly every hour. I often thought how would it have gone down if they had been docked a couple of weeks leave for smoking, or even better, the non smokers getting an extra few weeks leave in lieu of not taking fag breaks!! :)

If you had a management with a majority of smokers no one bothered how many smoke breaks people had.
Ai one time on the rigs smoking was allowed in the cabins, bad luck if you shared with a smoker more so one who would wake up in the middle of the night and light up.

If you were in Yarmouth this afternoon there was a new perspective on lighting up as an old WW2 bomb exploded whilst trying to be defused. Hope all personnel were ok.

Great Yarmouth, only slightly better than Lowestoft….which isn’t saying much.

I accept there is a big difference in taking a few days holiday in Yarmouth or living there but I have regularly spent a week or so there every year for the last 50 years and find it very pleasant.

I think I said before but I spent 7 years living in Norfolk and could easily move back there permanently, perhaps more towards dear old Cromer.
