Turned down Colchester apparently, Mansfield don't want to sell to Walsall a promotion rival. Christ I'd love to see pools splash some money and get him in.

We can dream but in the end, reality wakes you up. Even if Raj was able to pay what was asked, why would he come to Pools? He may well be peed off cos we released him.

You never know, the lure of family and friends might appeal to him. Odd that Mick Wadsworth never had a look at him for the first team when he was scoring for fun for Pools youth side, especially as we had no decent forwards that season - according to In The Mad Crowd our leading scorers were Tony Sweeney, Andy Monkhouse and Gary Liddle!
That said, he was in his mid-20s before he got a proper break above non-league level.

We can certainly be ruled out as a promotion rival to Mansfield

he is certainly the type of player we should be looking at either on loan or full time signing. like odusina if the club cannot afford this type of player then is non league actually the only place they can feel financially secure.

Hughes is busy collecting more players for Bradford, so Timi Odusina didn't even make the bench last night.

"Dion Pereira is back among City’s substitutes, alongside new signing Thierry Nevers who replaces Timi Odusina."

Odusina's move to City has been an absolute disaster for him. No doubt he'll be moved on in the summer, but Keith Curle could do a lot worse than to try to get him in on loan for the rest of this season. We could certainly do with his pace at the back! He's one 'old boy' that most Poolies would jump at the chance to see back in the blue and white.

Odusina & Johnson I believe would turn our season around.

We let Paterson go then Hartley signed is it a case we have to release a player before we can sign another one, I just can’t see Raj Singh paying for any player and as we are second bottom the only players who would come are ones who are bench warming at their current club or not in the thoughts of their current manager.

well thats odusina then for us. surely there are other round pegs in square holes at clubs where they have not come off and would be a perfect fit for us. Conor Evans ex torquay regular scorer hardly gets a look in with challinor at stockport.

If you pay money for the type we need you will have to fork out £100000 plus and we know that will not happen. We then have to rely on free transfers or loans and that is a gamble.

Odusina and Johnson could both be loans but are we able to pay the wages they expect? My feeling is we just dont have the funds particularly with a large squad with more than a couple who are not FL standard but who are on two year contracts.

I would like to ask posters “how much do you think average players in our league get” I heard that Hastie was on a two year contract at £1500 pw plus the flat which he shared with another player.

Well I could easily believe he was on more like £15 a week cas thats all he is worth. As for £1500 would never believe Raj would pay anything close to that for any player. Spill the beans who told you this?

Not sure what an "average" player is. A regular goal scorer would command a higher wage than most other players as would a top quality centre back because they are hard to find. If Hastie is earning what you have heard when he is beyond poor it is an absolute travesty bordering on fraud/daylight robbery. It also restricts what we can offer incoming players who might actually do something to help the team.

I suspect the likes of Stockport are able to pay generally higher wages than Pools could possibly afford so journeyman pros would quite happily join them and warm the bench rather than join us.

Their owner is a lot, lot wealthier than ours so of course they will, it’s not rocket science.

but they are not the only ones by a long way. can see all the southern clubs paying similar or more wages due to the cost of living being much higher down there. begs the question with the present owner is can pools really support a league club and if we survive this season whats the evidence the same thing will happen next year. its mid to late 50,s again with a good side but id rumours are right could not afford promotion then.

Yes, I recall my dad telling me about the widespread rumours regarding Westgarth's side. Supposedly the club didn't want promotion from Third Div North because they couldn't afford it. On the subject of the current day Pools financial situation, it seems to me that the majority of teams in League Two are better off than Pools either that or they dont care how deep into the red they go, they cant all be Stockports!

I remember the rumours but, as far as I know, not one player of that era has ever backed the rumour up. Just as some fans do now, fans in those days pretended to be in the know whilst making it up.
