See FIFA have told match officials at this World Cup to include all stoppages during 45 minutes play to the added time at the end of each half.

It's meant that so far there's hardly been a half that didn't have at least 4 or 5 minutes additional play and some have had 14-15 minutes if there's been long periods of treatment for injuries.

Wonder if it will be introduced more widely from now on? Think we can all agree that refs and 4th officials have had too much discretion up till now. We've all seen examples of 'Fergie time' for some teams and other games where fans are left scratching their heads because loads of time wasting is ignored.

IF the rule is brought in generally it should really put an end to time wasting. On the other hand, there's plenty of times when fans just want the whistle to put them out of their misery

For me apart from injuries there is too much added time now. Time wasting is a legitimate way to slow the game down and to gain an advantage. Its swings and roundabouts to where your team is at a point of the game. How about putting more into the first half of games where in many teams are trying to suss the other out far too much and we only get a good second half. Goalkeepers have been helped in timewasting by FIFA with the ability to take goal kicks anywhere in the goal area unlike they were in the old days and these short goal kicks that do not need to go out of the penalty area adds to wasted time and its legitimate to do this.

There two things that get me going 1)goalkeepers holding onto the ball for ages. A few years ago a rule was brought in saying they had to get rid of it within so many seconds that has obviously gone out of the window and the goal kicks from either side was also brought in to speed up play and has had the opposite effect. 2) after scoring the player runs into the corner of the pitch and is surrounded by the whole team who then casually walk back.

The authorities just can't leave the game alone. Year in and year out they tinker with the rules, sometimes without a lot of forethought as to what the reactions might be to their tinkering. Then they fail to enforce the changes, like they fail to enforce laws the have been there since the beginning of time, like the legality of throw ins or the place they should be taken from. The bloody list is endless.

A "recent" rule change I definitely approve of was making it illegal for a goalkeeper to handle a back pass. Also three points for a win was a darn good rule change. Majority of the tinkering has not necessarily improved the game as you say.

If it was implemented in the UK it might be a problem for travelling fans and the TV schedulers especially evening games.

What about the ten yard rule. As soon as a free kick is given an opponent stands over it stopping it from being taken. Remember they tried the rugby law of moving it ten yards forward if players didn’t move away that didn’t last long. The throw ins just a joke and your not talking about a few yards.

Nah, Should be 1 point for a win, Nowt for a draw. Penalty shoot out to decide who gets the point, After extra time of course.

At least it would be over after 80 minutes plus added time.......

Shoot me down, but I’d love to replace throw ins with free kicks.

Nearly a Danny Rose special at the very end of the Portugal v Ghana game.

I know this is a bit tangential but I remember that Sheff Wed forward called Peter Shirtliff. There is a famouse clip of the BBC commentator referring to him as "Shirtlifter" during a moment of excitement. I remember being most amused.

Reminiscent of the cricket commentary "The bowler's HOLDING the batsman's WILLEY"

at least with that there is a better chance of em being taken from the correct place. do not think any fan is happy with the current situation where the best one is when the ball goes out infront of the pools bench and its taken from where the opposition one is. seen that loads of times and by both sides in the game. other sports have touchlines but there games are always started opposite where the ball does go out. why is football different again.
