You are right that the bookies never lose but slightly for a different reason.

Out of every 100 bets on the favourite, some 67 lose and out of every 100 bets on the 2nd favourite some 79 lose.

When you simply make every bet £1 you see the bookie makes £72.50 on Truss (5-6) and £68.50 on Sunak (6-4) making a massive return of £141 on every £200 received.

You can see the odds against individuals don't really matter and it could be the other way round with Sunak the odds on favourite.

The only time there could be a loss for the bookies is if Mordaunt somehow wins - not likely though.

I think I would rather have my bet on Hartlepool @ 11-2 finishing in the top 7 this season.

have always thought that from the start. as long as it aint that mordaunt bint i,m not bothered, but just cannot see anyone to rally the party and shake it up to be a conservative party as people knew it.

Sunak will be there to ‘anaesthetise’ us all.

Thanks for the information Mr Critical. I will bear this in mind when i invest my 25p.

I have just seen the local branch of Gamblers Anonymous is having a meeting this week but there is a 13/2 chance it will be cancelled.

I refer the honourable gentlemen to my original post. I do think she’s going to struggle though, she’s like Theresa May without the personality and excitement.

Whoever wins their biggest problem is coming up with a cabinet that has any intellectual gravity. The party is split into factions and they will have to look for individuals that are going to be loyal yet capable.
That is going to be a tough job.

I think Sunak see’s her as the only option to stand a chance against especially with the members…. There’ll be a few ‘tales of the unexpected’ surfacing I have no doubt over the coming days.

So 160,000 people, about 0.3% of the population will determine who the next Prime Minister will be.

That's pretty democratic isn't it?

You wouldn't want either one to run the Whelk Stall at the local pub would you?

After seeing Boris in action the past couple of days combined with the offering of Sunak and Truss, an awful lot of people are thinking 'what the fuck have we done'.

The 1922 committee have recieved over 6000 letters challenging the process and yes, the leadership election decisions can be overturned by the membership. This ain't over.

If Corbyn had on the election it could potentially have been Maybot to Trussbot via a tosspot.

Doesn't change my opinion of Johnson. Either could have been the worst British Prime Minister of modern times. Johnson drew the short straw.

never liked mr.TV Personality johnson at any time. always thought he was acting all the time when we saw him. glad to see the back of him, but it could be like ex pools players who after they left are remembered with more feeling than they were at the time. all i want is someone to be truthful how ever much the truth hurts.

I think there were 2 spoilt ballot papers and someone didnt vote.
I wonder which MPs did this?
I imagine one would be Jill Mortimer thinking its a game of OXO.

See Sunak’s started his undermining campaign. Some supposedly female Tory commentator pleading she was undecided referred to Truss’s ‘fairytale’ approach to finances, but the interviewer pulled her up sharpish that this term was suddenly being used by Sunak supporters to describe Truss, must be the term of derision, hoping mud sticks.
So much for being undecided sweetheart.

I was talking to Tom Newton Dunn today, some years ago I did a re-release of Brothers in Arms with Mark Knopfler for the 25th anniversary of the Falkland and Tom was defence editor of the Sun. He arranged a double page spread every day for a week, I just had to line up the content. Simon Weston, John Philips etc..

Anyway we’ve kept in touch and now he’s a big shot political reporter and I suggested to him that my prediction that Boris will be back within six months as Foreign Secretary and general election cheerleader - I’ll Be Back.

Truss is a great administrator but not show. The reverse is true of Boris.

He thought it was a long shot but a possibility, we’ve got a tenner on it.

Could you blame him……? She sits there like an ageing made up stick insect, a sort of ‘female’ Joe Biden of the ‘airwaves’ still thinking she’s 25.

I can see BJ coming back at some point and holding a position which is more of a "minister without portfolio" or role specific eg Levelling Up minister etc rather than Home/Defence/Foreign etc as those roles demand some knowledge and attention to detail. More like a court jester type would be appropriate.
By then the Tory party may be in opposition when he will be in his element and effective.

To be fair I'm talking 20+ years ago, when she was still a bit of a looker - but as intensely unlikeable as she is now. Simon was a master at responding to her attempts at banter with a raised eyebrow or the merest hint of a curled lip.

She will end up on one of those weird tv channels co hosting with Nigel Farage.

When it came to the crunch, some of Sunak’s supporters allegedly became Truss backers for the day…..work it out.

Er, what’s her looks got anything to do with it? If we applied your logic the entire cabinet would be occupied by the ‘contestants/mugs’ on Love Island.

With Truss in No. 10 we will be in

DEEP DEEP SH*T after less than 1 year.

Been in the sh*t for few years started by Cameron having a vote on leaving the EU to win an election then walked away when it went t*ts up.
Of course Covid and the Ukrainian War hasn’t helped, if Labour don’t win the next election there is no saying how long we will have a Tory government.
The Tories won’t want a G.E. before the Boundary Changes come into effect as it will give them at least another 5 seats.
