The ugly side is definitely needed in midfield, no doubt about, I expect it in defence and a few flyer and smarter players up front. Am I asking too much? sctatchinghead

no, you are just asking for the basics like port vale and northampton have in their sides. a couple of players in the side that opposition fans really hate would help who seem to referee games, have a deploma from RADA for play acting and get away with murder every game. the bible mentions the meak inheriting the earth. but football was not invented then.

The ‘meek’ may inherit the Earth, Mr A, but let’s see how long they can hang on to it.

Pools need 2 old school center mids who want to go out and ruin some feckers day - along with a 6ft 3 bear of a CB behind them crunching anything they may have missed - its time we had a few players like that - make teams fear us not just for our tippy tappy passing but for the ugly side of football too !

and we need someone like that swindon lad mckirdy...[gave timid timi a right run around last game]...fast ..skilful..natural finisher....who winds up opposing fans in style with a trade mark goal celebration..

..the "machine gun" in his case.....shithouse...

This team lacks ‘characters’…. I’d call them football technicians, they do a job, but there does seem to be the ‘devil’ in any of them.

Poolie - Playing devils advocate, looking at mcKirdys record would you have been as keen to sign him last close season? In fact he had done nothing at a number of clubs and had barely scored.

jon..."Playing devils advocate, looking at mcKirdys record would you have been as keen to sign him last close season? In fact he had done nothing at a number of clubs and had barely scored."

...obviously not..his crucial data analysis stats would have been no good...shots to goal ratios etc..would not even have produced an alert for a geek like me on my computer screen...however if i had had the time to go and see him actually play a game of football....and saw something in the lad...and then got a positive from another scout type whose opinions i valued..and that was also positive and he saw the same things in him that i did......then even though he wasn't getting any game time..and his data analysis stats were shite...yep i might have been interested...if you get the sarcastic point im trying to make?

Trouble with stats is, you never know the background to a player. Stats give you a fantastic return if you’re working with gas meters.

poolie all I’m trying to say is free transfers without a decent background are a risk. I believe if you get 2 successes out of 5 you are doing ok. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, to be honest I wouldn’t have had Oates back and look how that turned out

oates fell into the catogary of never go back. you are lucky if 2 out of 5 do a job once they do comeback. as for mskirdy, surely pools would never sign him as he looked a scruffy sod on the pitch and would spoil the pre season team picture. there is a rumour also that as a 7 year old he kicked out at the family cat so we do not want a player with a naughty streak.

accrington..."there is a rumour also that as a 7 year old he kicked out at the family cat so we do not want a player with a naughty streak."

..yeah... also a rumour that we were interested at one point..but it all fell through because of mckirdy's long hair....he would not accept the pool rule that you must have it tied back or put in a bun ...like flapper and sterry....who rightly accepted the rule as daft but necessary in order to secure the honour of pulling on that shirt....

Why do you insist on calling him geek boy?

That's not really an answer.

I think it’s blindingly obvious that anyone in that post could get given that innocuous title.
It ticks all the boxes and is hardly offensive.

what can go wrong when we get sky blue thinking at the club along with them feeling psycologicaaly safe with highly inclusive leaders and organisational effectiveness.
