It's a home tie and a chance to go further. Blackpool's form is really bad at the minute. UTP.

Yep take that, glad it wasn't. Harrogate or Yeovil.

Positive is its a home draw. Decent chance of them bringing a full end, but not exactly one for the TV cameras.

6000 crowd will get the Vic Rocking.
Winable game.
82k for winners.
Better draw in round 4.
UTP.

Could have been a lot worse. We’ll win this then get Newcastle away in the 4th round for a big pay day (if they get through that is).

I think it's a decent draw. Full house and winnable, whereas a home draw against a massive club would only create a similar financial gate return with a lesser chance of progression.

I went there watching Pools once. Last league game of the season (Neil Warnock was their manager) won and they were in the play offs, and the away end was opened just for home supporters, BIG crowd on. I think about 20 Poolies travelled down, but I was in the area anyway. We got spanked 4-0 (I think)

I reckon blackpud supporters are more disappointed with the draw than us.

Anybody remember a last game of the season trip to Blackpool back in the 70s? Safe yet again! The away end completely open with maybe 3 or 4 hundred poolies and Bob Newton took a ball over their defence to go on and score. If i remember rightly Pools were 1-0 and 2-1 up and it finished 2-2. I remember some old guy with a flat cap telling us where we could get cheap beer as the sea front ripped you off. Up the Pools. Hartlepool.

yes, and that so called massive club would play players we have never heard of. the result will depend a lot on pools form on the day and if blackpool are still on a poor run. anyone who thinks its a poor draw against a championship club then just think it could of been reading.

Blackpool are having a tough old time up there - they also have a decent array of fixtures leading upto and after our game with them. Depending on their xmas fixtures im sure they may be keeping an eye on the league rather than the cup. Boro - Hull - Fulham all teams to give them a hiding. Might play into our hands this, plus it being a home fixture we shouldnt be looking at it like a giant killing either. Might get a prem team after all

fillip would have walked into either side looking at that clip. as for matthews being man of the match with a mortenson hat trick it shows that players have never been equal with the media. do not know if this rumour is true but at stan mortensons funeral a relative was supposed to have said, wonder if they,ll call this the matthews funeral.

They both look like a team full of pensioners!

They didn't have spot the ball then it was spot the non-smoker in the crowd.

How times have changed.

Always think the same when looking at old team photo,s of the past. Was even worse pre war when i,m sure some players could have got a pensioner concession without proof of age. Only good thing was there was no shaven heads and armful of tatoos on show.

Looking at that, that was rough football, no prisoners taken and just plain agricultural. Mind you there were some right hard cases on the field..... imagine playing a team like that in the Premiership... there’d be blood on the moon

You don't have to go back that far. I reckon the likes of Bob Newton & Billy Ayre would be banned more often than they played, given the nannying that goes on these days

loved the rolling over bit ....and smacking the ground in pain...just shameful pathetic play acting... with the sole intent of conning the referee into a red card.....well done pal

It was called the Mathews final because I believe Blackpool were 3 - 1 down and he turned the game round and laid on the goals to give them the win. As they called him the wizard of the dribble. I remember watching the match in Bruce Moore’s shop on York Rd because we didn’t have a television

plus the lying dead approach where a minute later they are running round like greyhounds. think even a photo of bob newton or billy ayre would cause some to miss a few games. just when did this soft approach to the game started and why. just seemed to happen overnight. any sending off uused to be talked about for weeks after it happened.

knew the late peter madden the ex rotherham hard man centre half. he said that when they played the local derby against doncaster he was obliged to give his opponent a kicking plus recieving one also. he then went on to say that the fans demanded this and in those days you lived in the same street as they do and they,d give you some stick if they thought you deserved it.
