Pools 2 Newport 1

Hopefully a blatantly offside last minute winner from Pools.

If Pools just took 1 chance in every 5 from free kicks/ corners etc we would be top of the league.

We a decent forward away from challenging for a top 7 finish.
C what January brings.

I think we are a bit more than a forward away from top 7. Once again a keeper who can't deal with balls in the box, costing us yet again. Maybe a lack of creativity at times too. Tough games coming up let's hope our season doesn't fall apart.

Pools had enough chances to win the game then fell to a sucker punch. Molyneux MoM - wish he'd shot when he was on that run inside the box instead of trying to play Cullen in.

Need Sterry and Holohan back in the side a.s.a.p. Toss a coin for the goalkeeping position - they're both bang average.

We've played better and played worse. We really do need a cutting edge to put some of these chances away,so many good chances go begging. I thought Newport were a really good side but they didn't work killip that much but yet again we gift goals away, struggling to keep clean sheets this season as well so it's about being clinical in both boxes. A few good performance's tonight, mainly molyneaux, featherstone, liddle, Byrne and Ferguson but the rest were not really at it. Agree about the keepers, if we could merge the 2 we would have a decent keeper!. It's frustrating killip never comes for crosses and personally think Mitchell is the better option.

Hopefully have holohan and sterry back in the coming week!

Killip had to deal with three efforts on goal & two resulted in goals.
Says it all really.

Killip shouldnt have been offered a new deal and isnt good enough for this level. Said it too many times. As much we need a striker we also desperately need a really good GK too

The goalkeeping situation has been hit and miss for far too long, we swop between adequate and average, let’s get a decent keeper in as a priority. It’s as though no one’s ever bothered to undertake a realistic assessment of the keeper situation. It’s a weak link.

it does, but how many shots did we have on target though. ogle could have got a hat trick in the first half but didn,t even force a save from there bloke. do not rate killip but the game was lost at the other end of the pitch.

that winning run was bound to end sometime and longer it went on i for one have always wondered if today would be that day every week. hope its not a london bus situation where you have to wait for ages and then two or more then turn up. could be even harder next week with the vegans in town on my sodding birthday.

matty dolan....one of our own...thought he was excellent for them...always in control.... and never looked like loosing the ball when they were playing it out from the back....whereas thought we looked like an accident waiting to happen trying to do the same ...a beauty from fergie ...but interested in what sweens said after the game about it....that he has never seen fergie practising free kicks in training..???

Had we converted our chances then we would haven took the 3 points even with the dodgy keepers situation at the club.
I like Mols skill but the new gaffer needs to send him to the gym in his sparetime to strengthen him up.
Get him in the Mitrovich mode.
We creating loads of chances and makeing steady progress on n off the pitch.
Start building next seasons team in January n the foundations should be in place to crack on upwards.
UTP.

hopefully pools will pick up a few wins before january and not be in freefall. we need to be building for the future like you say and not going for quick fix panic signings just to keep us in the league and start over again in the summer. there are still a number of players on the books who are just not good enough at this level even for the bench. think daly is another to join mols to get beefed up a bit.

After this showing it is apparent we need a better keeper, a strong defensive midfielder and a striker to put the ball in the net. When we come up against a good midfielder like Dolan we seem to struggle.

That Kevin f.....n Ellison must have robbed us of more points than any other player in football league history, as soon as he came on everyone around me said he'd get or be involved in the winner, and so it materialised. As soon as he entered the fray he proceeded to unsettle Byrne, using every trick in the book to distract the opposition.

Which brings me to my major concern, we don't have a natural cover for Byrne, when he's out we struggle, so definitely need a good experienced centre half as cover.

Dolan was playing in the middle of Newport's back three.

Cheers, Reebok.
Excellent support for such a journey on a Friday night.
I understand you took about 80 up to Barrow on a Friday night a few weeks back.
Good luck for the season.... but not at our expense!

Ellison is definitely a kind of player I'd like at Pools, has an eye for a goal as well and have always found him somewhat likable in interviews, especially around his mental health.

And credit indeed to Newport's fans, Friday is brutal away at most grounds, let alone the furthest North

He’s 42 now.

Not a good weekend for us at least Sh*tport County are doing their bit to cheer us up dropping 2 home points to a last minute own goal from the defender that DC brought on 30 seconds earlier.

Even at Pools, Challinor could be guilty of using a poor sub choice or questionable tactics. What limited him to those was our very small squad. Now he has a large squad and more potential to take off the wrong player and bring on the wrong player.

Stockport have seemingly forgot Challinor essentially relegated Fylde, and they had a budget much larger than Stockport does.

While it's early days, it is already becoming apparent Chesterfield are the leagues best side. Something I predicted the day they got ahold of Kabongo Tshimanga.

bit of a carbon copy of our game on friday night. missed chances, wrong decision making and a defensive cock up with their own dodgy looking keeper.

and a wind up merchant who would not get away with it or his treatment of match officials if he was at pools. these young refs seem shit scared of him for some reason.

I didn’t realise DC had just brought the defender on who scored the OG. That’s mint.
