I’ve been reading a history book written by Andrew Marr. At the end he has a quick Brexit chapter (quick because at the time of writing it had only just happened) and his view was that IF Merkel had given just a bit more in the initial pre vote haggling, Brexit could have been avoided. But she decided to play hard ball and Cameron came back home with nothing to show, and nothing to give out to the voters, in the way of problem solving concessions.
