Here we go again!
More of the usual? Travel all the way down there to be told to come back again with no match? We shall see.

It is winter you know?

Personally, with Eastleigh to play on the back of this on Tuesday, I don't think DC will lose too much sleep, if it is called off. It would however provide a bit of a problem if Eastleigh was postponed as well.

If they call it off at twelve we will have saved the travelling and hotel costs.
Like Mr H said, it is winter and we are experiencing some pretty dramatic temperatures at the moment.

So the referee has confirmed that the game will go ahead. So what happens if the weather turns foul tonight or tomorrow morning? Just a thought.

The game might then be called off. Likewise ref could've called it off yesterday, and it could be blazing sunshine today. It happens, its the weather, its winter.

Funnily enough its a year ago today, since a wasted trip down to Birmingham for the Solihull game. I actually went down on the Thursday afternoon, and it never stopped raining for 3 days. I got up on the Saturday morning opened the curtains in the hotel bedroom, and it dark as hell and still raining, Checked my mobile as their was pitch inspection at 9am, match off, fook fook fook ! I vowed there and then, that I would never ever attend an away game in February ever again , horrible month, and made many wasted journeys in February following Pools over the years.

it might not have been the match referee that checked the pitch anyway. its happened before where a local ref has passed a pitch fit and the match referee arrives and calls the whole thing off. in the old days with a fixture backlog they would have given the game a chance if both teams wanted to play. today they have to be as close to 100 per cent certain as they can that the pitch is not dangerous to any player. if a player did get injured due to the pitch it opens a real can of worms for the ref as the situation could end in court with compo for the injured player with the ref charged.

Well well. Proved right unfortunately and sadly. Yes, agree it's winter and in particular February. If there was any doubt it should have been called off yesterday for the benefit of all. This is becoming a predictable habit as far as I can see. Let's see if it occurs again on Tuesday. I hope FC Halifax Town and The Daggers respective live streams let me watch the re-arranged games without further payment? I suspect others are in the same boat here.

Fookin ell ! just put radio on and heard the news. I thought it was strange they were still talking about Boro at 2.55pm.

If they ever had a winter break in this country, the powers that be, would probably have it in Dec/Jan. Believe me February is the month to have it. Thank god no supporters had to make a wasted journey. It would be interesting to know how many games have been called off over the years on this particular weekend.

Went to shops earlier and reckon the game would've been called off if it had been up here, the earth underneath my feet very crunchy not that , that is any consolation.

Can only imagine there was no doubt or little doubt, or else ref would've called it off. Maybe refs are just not what they used to be either. It is annoying though.

Match ref inspected yesterday said it’s fine, ground staff said it isn’t. Pitch improves slightly but still unplayable. Same referee arrives today and says pitch is unplayable. Idiotic.

It's more than just annoying though, isn't it ?
Pools have travelled down in good faith, spending, I believe, in the region of £5000. Surely, in the present climate ( pun intended), if there was the slightest doubt that the game could not go ahead because of the weather, the ref should have erred on the side of caution ? Apparently, according to the interview with DC, it was the match official who carried out the inspection yesterday. He wants a bloody good bollocking at the very least.

I was just about to buy the live stream when i discovered it was off, which is why I put the info on three threads to try and stop others from buying the stream.

I remember years ago we were meant to play Peterborough at Feethams and they refused to set off without an inspection as it had been a cold night. At 9am the pitch wasn't playable so the fixture was pulled. By late morning the temperature had jumped to around 10 degrees and the pitch was perfect, Darlo trained on it instead.

Yes without doubt. Something has to change dramatically within NL NLN NLS.

Altrincham lost that's them out of contention for a while. Stockport drew at home, 1 point.

Regionalisation is a lot less appealing just at the minute with the great majority of NLN clubs set on voiding the season. Pools, Stockport, Halifax and several others would be in the same boat as York in a regionalised structure and powerless to prevent it from happening.

I appreciate that it's a selfish point of view, but as a Pools fan I wouldn't ever want to be in a position where I fork out for a season ticket, buy streams for away games, and invest my enthusiasm and interest in the twists and turns of a season only to have a lot of part-time clubs (each with far fewer committed fans than the Pools) decide that it was all for nothing.

Agree that the NL, NLN, NLS structure in its present form is not fit for purpose but for as long as Covid is around it's the mix of part-time and full-time clubs that is toxic.

Pools fans on this board who are no longer committed to actually going to games are entitled to take a loftier standpoint, of course

That would be a dream come true for fans and clubs. Less travel, higher attendance, everyone would win.

Of course youd have some teams who wouldn't stop moaning about going in the NLS. I saw a Gloucester fan meltdown on twitter just because a journo suggested the NLS is a better home for them.

Nothing to do with the ground staff, its the referees decision, no one else. Who said the pitch had improved slightly? not the ref I would imagine.

thats what you get when you get kids with little experiance doing a mans job. knowing the laws of the game backwards as well as forward and in serbo croat does not mean you are capable of doing everything correct in the job.

and it would become more shite with regionalised games. the only plus would be for the fans who go away to games when they get the chance again. the downside for them would be that these games would be all ticket adding to the hassle of getting tickets with the possibilty of etickets coming into the equasion to cause even more problems for some of us.
