Easy one, they had Neil Danns in midfield, we had Featherstone.

1684 Pools fans.

It got worse. I worked on a project there in 2019 and the first public meeting was in Blackpool Central Library. Over a 100 people in the room but you had to ask for keys to go to the lav because the staff kept every unoccupied room and corridor locked to stop the spice addicts wandering in to find somewhere to pass out.

As for the game, think getting beat had most to do with having that useless, demotivating twot Dave Jones as manager!

yes, and the last time i set foot in the place.just over one hour by road for me. its one place in the country that i have no sympathy for. it reaped what it sowed over the years. always thought at the end of the m55 they should have arrected a warning sign. You Are Entering Blackpool Prepare To Be Ripped Off.

Was okay up until the 1970s, but then slowly sold its soul to sleaze and stag and hen parties.

Blackpool became a grotesque version of a poor mans Las Vegas, some of the B&B's in the mid eighties were filthy, it's the only place where I've been shown a room then turned around and walked out of the place.
Admittedly when in my twenties it was a place to swill beer, get back to your digs ratted and proceed to be sick ,halfwits setting off fire extinguishers after indulging in the late bar, then stupidly keep respectable people up all night by making a racket, so not surprisingly was over many decades bound to be lacking in many standards.
The only thing you could maybe bank on was a decent breakfast.

Blackpool was always a place you loved or hated, but like all other seaside resorts such as Scarborough, Torquay, Gt. Yarmouth started to go down in the 70s when people started to go Spain Greek Islands etc.
Blackpool is now a weekend break resort which attracts stag do’s but at the same time it still has a lot for the younger generation and families. There are three piers with children’s attractions, Blackpool Tower ,the largest Pleasure Beach in the country and the Zoo. For older people just keep out of the centre visit Lytham St Anne’s or Stanly Park and of course the Illuminations which is just an excuse for a weekend away. Don’t forget I believe Blackpool is still the most visited resort in this country and whilst the old fashioned boarding houses are played out, except for stag parties, because we expect better these days, the large hotels are still thriving.

So if you just want a p### up keep to Church St and save your money.

Fine margins though, if we had won that game at Blackpool we would have stayed in LG.2 and Newport relegated, also Blackpool would not have scraped into the playoffs and got promotion via the playoffs.

think blackpool B&B,s also invented the prairie breakfast. wide open spaces. stayed there twice for holidays and each time i had to go out after meals for something else to eat. i only have an average appitite as well and never get anything bigger than a half lot when i visit hartlepool. anyone who has kids who do not like the beach its a place to keep well away from. back in the 90,s the arcades had as many 10p pushers than the 2p ones, you have to buy wrist bands for the pleasure beach even if you do not go on the rides and you,d have to pawn the family jewels for a trip up the tower. try telling kids you cannot afford these places.

I visited Blackpool dozens of times and never had any problems but as I said boarding houses are now played out for holidays, people expect more. I still remember the days of sharing one toilet for four or five bedrooms but that was the norm in those days. Who would book a room these days without en-suit and not have a choice of meal. Times have changed but I still have many happy memories of my weeks holidays in Blackpool. As for prices is Blackpool any dearer than other types of pleasure parks they all seem to work on the wrist band entrance. I know it’s totally different but try Florida theme parks and you’ll know what expensive is.

the problem with wrist band entrance is that everyone in the party has to obtain one even if they have no intention to go on a ride. the old idea of free entry and paying for wristbands, tickets etc. for a ride is a fairer way. for someone like me, my ex wife and our lad it meant paying triple for his enjoyment as neither of us could physically stomach these things. even all the numbers of ex travelling showmen i knew think the same way.

Until recently you could pay £5 for entry only but I’m afraid the wrist band thing is now operated at most theme parks. To be honest my wife and I used to like a leisurely walk through the pleasure beach but no way would I pay £5 each just to walk through.

I'd want them to pay me.

It’s everyone to there own but I just love to take in the atmosphere of these type of locations seeing people enjoying themselves. I have to be honest I was still going on rides in Orlando with my grandchildren just before I was 80.

i am just the same with the local travelling fairs that come to towns accross the country. however its only a watching brief for me as i class the dodgems as a white knuckle ride and thats about it for me.

I have now retired from rides after coming off a ride called Rock and Roll coaster in Hollywood studios, Orlando, shaking like a leaf and legs of jelly. Sadly having to admit to being too old and passed it.
