Not to mention Michael Mackay and John Borthwick. Pools have never been the best at spotting Northern league goalscorers who can do well at a higher level, so come on down Cedwyn Scott!

Seen him play for three clubs, all at different levels too. Was really hot at Berwick Rangers yet they decided to cancel his loan. Went to Dunston where he was average and then dropped down to Hebburn where he's (and to be fair the entire team) been scoring for fun.

Steve Howard played in the Northern League for Tow Law. I heard he's thinking of retiring, but it's still a bit too soon.

Very unlikely a player with Football League potential or even NL would be playing in the NL these days. Still you should never give up looking, but not the rich pickings there was in the past.

some for some reason or other just fall under the radar. fail at one club and the word goes round. would give anyone a chance myself. pools cannot afford to be too fussy and you never know that they could hit lucky for once.

Yep, no harm in giving anyone a trail , though it seems strange when you have players like Grey at the club who he won't play.

My thoughts too, though he'll more likely finish up signing for Gateshead.

I posted before about John Borthwick. Was prolific when he left Pools unfortunately.

at least you gave him a chance. there have been many players over the years who did not do it with one club then shined with another.

John Borthwick for one! 14 goals in 117 appearances for Pools, 34 goals in exactly the same number of games for Darlo.

He was the spearhead in a good team and most of those goals were scored in the lower standard conference league at the time.
Despite that he was always a target for the boo boys as they knew his reputation for being bang average with Pools so was always on a hiding to nothing.
Can just imagine the carnage on social media had it been around then.

To be fair to Borthwick, he only played in one decent pools team, 85/86, some of the other teams he played in were the worst teams known to man. Can only assume playing a good Darlo team helped him enormously in terms of scoring goals.

Must have hit the back of his head when he wasn't looking.
