Blackhall CW played in the 1st round once, back in 1951 , played Workington at the Welfare Park, got beat 5-2, crowd 4500. Not a lot of people know that.

Easington Colliery reached the first round of the FA Cup in 1955. Played at home (also Welfare Park I think),same crowd as Blackhall, 4500. Lost 2-0 to Tranmere Rovers.
I don't suppose a lot of folk know that either.

Horden got to the 2nd round in 1937, you can see highlights on You tube and or Pathe news, think i have posted it on here before.

This is an excellent resource for this type of thing. Go on the A-Z

1 lucky team gets a bye in today's draw.
Rather get Darlo but that will be like a bye anyway.

How about Ryhope Mr Horden? Which other yakker teams has qualified?

Come to think of it, presumably pit teams were not full of shrinking violets. Pitmen basically weightlifted for a living so tended to be strong blokes. I can't imagine they were bullied by league teams even in those days.

just thinking how a present league team would do against them especially if the match officials interpreted the laws of the game 1950,s style. can hear them playing johnny rays record Cry at half time.

Last Wearside League team to play in the FA Cup 1st round. 1967 Ryhope 0 v 3 Workington.

Early 1950s seems to have been the golden period for NE football generally and pit village teams.

This confirms my view, that we are the most unluckiest club on the planet. Skint and the club who have to travel the longest distances in Britain to play their games, you would've hoped we would get a home draw, oh no ! not us.

The North

1 Darlington v Cambridge City
2 Stafford Rangers v Skelmersdale United
3 Solihull Moors v Wrexham
4 Banbury United v Bury Town
5 South Shields v Halifax Town
6 Ilkeston Town v Hartlepool United
7 FC United of Manchester v Guiseley
8 Brackley Town v Marske United
9 Kings Lynn Town v Notts County
10 Stockport County v Chesterfield
11 AFC Fylde v Altrincham
12 Chester v Marine
*Chorley (bye to first round proper)

The South

13 Maidenhead United v Cray Valley (PM)
14 Canvey Island v Cray Wanderers
15 Wealdstone v Hayes & Yeading United
16 Sutton United v Bromley
17 Tonbridge Angels v Taunton Town
18 Hemel Hempsted Town v Hampton & Richmond Borough
19 Aldershot Town v Woking
20 Maldon & Tiptree v Haringey Borough
21 Dagenham & Redbridge v Hartley Wintney
22 Leiston v Barnet
23 Weymouth v Oxford City
24 Eastbourne Borough v Dulwich Hamlet
25 Eastleigh v Weston-Super-Mare
26 Sholing v Torquay United
27 Bath City v Havant & Waterlooville
28 Boreham Wood v Wimborne Town
29 Yeovil Town v Dover Athletic

Yeah, could've been worse, Banbury 4 hour drive. Tempted to go down to Ilkeston, just for the crack, sure once there , I could worm my way in. All these non league clubs getting 400 crowds, I am sure if 410 turned up, they arent turning 100 quid away , if you get my drift

just get your suit and tie on. wear a nwish smart overcoat and follow someone through the players and officials entrance. look confident at all times and you may end up with the big fat cigar brigade. did this at doncasters belle vue years ago by accident and no one battered an eyelid. enjoyed the half time hospitality as well.

Yep, reckon it could be done, would feel awkward in a suit and tie though, only for court and funerals  so smart casual , slacks and shirt and an overcoat would be my choice of attire , with my 12ft Hartlepool United - Blackhall Branch flag in a carrier bag
