Macclesfield Town wound up in The High Court this morning with debts of £500,00. RIP. Who is next?

Not a great surprise really. Ex manager John Askey (in charge from 2013 to 2018) listed as being owed £173,000. He's probably been strung along with a series of promises that allowed it to get that high. I'd have been out of the door when owed a lot less. Good luck to the phoenix club that will hopefully emerge.

Not many fond memories of that ground.

Remember a young Tony Sweeney being sent off in an FA Cup match - an outrageous decision if my (biased) memory serves.

Don't remember many wins, a horrible journey home on Tuesday nights - and when it rained it was torrential!

But bad news for all of those involved now and in the past - when they went on their journey up the leagues - many good folk will have contributed much - and we should reflect on them as much as those suffering right now.

And who will be next?

Never nice seeing any football club wound up, and goes to show the importance of the lower leagues to the footballing world when the news is not headline on the BBC footy website. Hope they bounce back.

Macclesfield were sunk by another clueless cowboy chairman who has been allowed to get away with owing money all over the place for far too long. Back in December Sol Campbell added his name to the winding up petition claiming he was owed £182,000 - for just over 8 months work! He must have been appointed on at least £250k a year, not bad for someone who had zero managerial experience.

Such a shame. Spent an evening in the Sammy McCllroy suite for a midweek game when we played them...such a friendly 'well run' club back then. RIP

Been a slow painful death for Macclesfield , remind of you of anyone?. Couldn't believe it when they went straight back up a couple of seasons ago from our league, fair play, that Whitaker was some player.

Not one of our lucky grounds ( have we any?) but remember winning there in the cup in 1985 our first visit and in 2001 during the 20 odd game unbeaten run.

EDIT - actually our record there was W4 L3 D3 so not too shabby, surprisingly out of those 10 away games, 3 where in the FA Cup

It was at home they were a bogey team. W2 L5 D2 , including another FA Cup game, which we lost 2-4, Pederson scored for us

way things have gone, the demise of a northern football club is of less importance than who sponsors a premier league players bootlaces and their new hairstyle for the forthcoming season. another nail in the coffin of the northern football powerhouse. things are not what we would like at pools but regulars on on fixture lists like york, darlo, chester gateshead and bradford park avenus play in divisions lower. add that to stockport etc who play in our league you get the picture. thats without mentioning bury again.

yes, remember that one. the words who will be next should really be which northern club will be next. i for one would shed no tears for the end of barnet, dagenham, crawley, stevenage and the nailsworth vegans.

Gareths Bales ridiculous monthly wage would have supported teams like Macclesfield for years, they always used to say footballers received high salaries because they had a short career.
At the end of the day it’s the fans indirectly who are paying the salaries through TV Subscription Channels, strips etc. They should be a cap on Premier League salaries where every club is not allowed to pay more than others instead of trying to buy success like Man. City and others have done.

Wages and all the niceties that go with a footballers lifestyle are the main reason for clubs going bust , even right down to our level. They wages should be less, you could cap it or the fans could sort it out, by refusing to pay the inflated ticket prices for admission, replica tops and food and drink, etc. As the man on the street becomes poorer, he will increasingly resent the extortionate wages footballers get for kicking a ball about for a living.

somebody will know but what percentage does the present cost of entry at the vic is compared to the few bob paid in the mid 50,s. thats all you need to see a match. replica tops as well as food or drink aint compulsory. you can bring your own non alcoholic drinks into the ground and if you cannot manage not to eat for a few hours then your waistline might be the problem. on a saturday i have a breakfast about 1 in the headland cafe then have a bag of chips at seaton after the game. i,m hardly starving to death.

i like a proper breakfast at home on a matchday , part of the ritual . A few pints before the game and a couple after , followed by a takeaway or a good meal I prepared earlier, does for me, try not to drink in the ground at half time and never eat the shite they sell in the ground. Can't believe some will do all of the above, but each to their own I suppose.

I have been known to have had 10 pints after a home win, in that respect Pools have probably prolonged my life

Not many. A few though after drowning my sorrows after another sickening home defeat.
