(Without checking) Which of the following high profile former Pools players scored the most league goals for the club?:-
a) Bobby Kerr
b) Don Hutchinson
c) Ray Kennedy
d) Nolberto Solano
e) Peter Beardsley

I reckon Nolberto Solano, Peter Beardsley, Don Hutchinson scored the same. So a 50/50 guess - Bobby Kerr.

Remember that goal Beardsley scored in the town end when the ball looped into the air and when it came down he was there to bury it in the net. When i saw he was under it i just knew he would score.

That game where Beardsley scored up the town end was a pirler and a bit later he did a similar shot and almost scored that as I recall. I also remember one or two? people indicating that perhaps Peter Beardsley wasn't exactly the best looking guy in the world and allegedly had a corker of a wife. Not that I am an authority on these matters of course.

Beardsley often looked crap playing for us, because his speed of thought was on a different level to those around him . quite often he would put a ball into space , only for our players to fail to telegraph it , with the embarrassing situation ensuing of a ball rolling around with no player within 10-15 yards of it. He was a marquee signing , maybe not the wisest move at the time , but was justified in that the 4 points we got with his 2 goals , the worldy in the 2-2 draw with Cambridge on his debut and the winner in the penultimate home game v Orient probably saved our Football League status

Agree with Horden's last comment. Ray Kennedy was exactly the same & he was in the early stages of Parkinson's !

I remember Hutchinson doing that I think in his last game before he signed for was it Liverpool?

Here's another one to ponder over:-
In which year did Pools win an F.A.Cup match 2-1 at Old Trafford Manchester, with Kenny Johnson scoring the winner?

I seen Kennedy play a couple of times. He didn’t move much but his passing was exquisite. I agree with Mr Horden about Beardsley, his thinking was way above the rest of the team so a great pass at a higher level looked like a wasted ball.

It was remarkable that Beardsley Usually got a standing ovation at away grounds too.

Bluestreak is correct , 1958 v Rochdale.

Something magical about playing games at Neutral grounds , the fact we haven't much , tells you everything about our unsuccessful history.

Can only remember us playing at one other neutral ground , Roker Park v Scunthorpe in 1972 , attendance 7917. Wonder how many Poolies made the trip ? Legend has it , that Sunderland's finest chased us out of the Fulwell End that evening.

We'd played Rochdale in the cup home and away and drew both games, the rules in those days were you played the 2nd replay at a neutral venue, how it came to be Old Trafford I'll never know, but we won 2-1 after extra time. Kenny Johnson scored the winner in the 116th minute.

Was just talking about this the other day on another forum. How these replays were organised. Someone mentioned they tossed a coin if they couldn't agree , so for example if first game was at Hartlepool , replay at Rochdale , third game should've been at Hartlepool , but one club could object and decide on a neutral venue instead. I'm guessing whoever won toss , maybe got a neutral venue nearer to them , hence we played at Old Trafford which is clearly nearer to Rochdale and Pools played at Sunderland when they played Scunthorpe. Happy to be corrected.

Another one:-
Which team fielded 8 full England internationals and 2 England U21 internationals in their starting 11 in a cup game against us at the Vic?

Yep. Only player in the team that night without a cap was our very own Andy Linighan. September 94, they started that night with:-
1)David Seaman
2)Lee Dixon
3)Martin Keown
4)Paul Davis
5)Andy Linighan
6)Tony Adam's
7)Ian Selley
8)Ian Wright
9) Alan Smith
10)Paul Merson
11)Ray Parlour
Must've been frightened we'd turn them over

Yes I think I remember that the arsenal fans were in the town end/clarence road corner. They arrived late and the pools fans chanted one nil , one nil. It took them some time to realise we had not scored much to amusement with both sets of fans.

We also played Halifax in an FA Cup 2nd rd 2nd replay at St.James Park Newcastle in 1936. Winning 4-1. The prolific Johnny Wigham getting a hat-trick. In the 3rd round we drew 0-0 against the then first division Grimsby at the Vic in front of 15000.
