If an injection for the virus became widely available to the general public what would your reactions be. For me i feel the possibility of it being a bit of a rushed job and i,d wait and see if people i knew have had bad reactions before i would book my slot.

I think I would just take it. The medics talk about risk and benefit and that's what each of us would have to weigh up.
The big follow up question will be how long will the vaccine be effective for and when to have a booster, if one is required.

I've always avoided flu jabs in the past because a) I don't really know what's in them other than the obvious and b) always believed if you were relatively healthy and fit you should build up your own immune system.

Covid throws a different light on that line of thought though. So reluctantly yes, but would worry that in the future they would stop you from travelling abroad or entering another country without having had it(injection).

You make a very good point regarding travel, Mr Salad.

I picture in a few months time people booking a holiday cottage in say Devon, and on entering a local pub down there being greeted with the Hammer horror fillum type scenario of 'what brings you down here then?', 'from around these parts are you?' 'You'll go back where you came from if you know what's good for you!' etc...

can see the same around me in bronte country and the yorkshire dales. wicker men built for tourists is next on the cards. around haworth the recent events have really shown what many of locals feel about tourists. just booked my elocution lessons to speak pure yorkshire. opened a new bank account, ordered a flat cap and geoff boycott signed photograph to start with.

Interesting to see in the Hartlepool mail that both the leader of the council and MP are stating that the infection rate in Hartlepool is still rising and has not peaked. Hartlepool ain't London or the overall national picture.

My mate pretty much had every single symptom 4-5 weeks ago, he wasn't tested so isnt counted.

I honestly don’t think it’ll be a factor in the short to medium term. A vaccine is reputed to be a year away.

Most of us will get this virus in the next six months so if the antibodies work as they typically do with a virus then we will have a built in protection.

The still frightening bit is the number of deaths to come. Remember that the global strategy in high density countries has never been to stop people getting this thing, that simply impossible without a vaccine. It’s always been about managing the demand on the NHS.

We are currently running at 1.2% of confirmed cases dying. Extrapolating those figures is terrifying. A Population of 67m and 1.2% of those people infected end up dying puts the 30 odd thousand into perspective.

The Spanish flu took 15 months to come to an end and apparently those infected either died or developed immunity which is a bit scary. You can do the sums so lets hope a vaccine comes sooner than 12 months stated or else there would be no point to it.
