It’s the only sport they’ve got, so they’re gonna hype it up. Apart from downhill pottery painting and extreme tiggy off ground that is.

plus they know that men will not criticise it in fear of being called sexist no matter what its like. her indoors has been to live games with me in the past and watches football and rugby on the box but she thinks womens football is crap.

Dont knock downhill pottery painting until you have experienced it.

I’ve thought about trying it for the experience, but it can get a bit wild I understand, especially if the paints a bit craggy, so I’m giving it a miss.
I did consider having a go at the martial arts side but the balloon on a stick mad rampage can turn in a moment into a bloodbath..... or possibly not.

I might have to watch with the sound turned right down - when the crowd gets excited the noise reminds me of the schoolboy international I went to when I was 10 or 11.

When the ref blows for a foul on a player, does that player then ignore the ref and refuse to speak to her?

It’s improved leaps and bounds in the last 10/20 years I remember years ago when the used to just show the women’s FA Cup final or the odd clip on Grandstand and it was at times laugh out loud funny it was that shit, especially the keepers.

The amount of coverage now is so right on BBC though as the standard is disproportionate to the exposure. The USA who are World Champions played the Dallas under 15 boys academy team a couple of years ago and lost 5-2. Also they won a game 13-0 yesterday in a World Cup which shows as a professional competitive sport it’s still in its infancy. Some of the players are very talented which excellent technical ability but it’s not of the quality for it to be on BBC One at prime time which a game not even involving England was last week. Especially as most of the grounds are half empty.

At the same time we have the c ricket World Cup going on in England, of which one group game got 800,000 ticket applications for a 25,000 stadium but if you don’t have Sky Sports or aren’t willing to stay up after midnight to watch half arsed Channel Four highlights you won’t see any of it. Disproportionate, right on, box ticking.

The keepers do come across poor in womens football but I often feel sorry for them in regard to the goal size. No stats to back this up mind but i presume the average height for male keepers in like 6ft1ish maybe? Id guess the women are on average 5ft 9ish or so? They look tiny between the posts and have almost zero chance of saving many shots that are towards the corners of the goal.

I will watch pretty much any game of footy, regardless of the standard. Which I think is the first thing you need when it cones to being a Poolie.

I think the reason the BBC show it a lot is because it is cheap for them.

The ironing is that if women's football ever justifies the hype and really takes off in terms of viewing figures, sponsorship and merchandising, one of the non-terrestrial channels will snap it up and the BBC will have to find something else to spend the extra income from over 75s' licence fees on.

The BBC are hyping it up high heaven because it’s all they’ve got. End of.
If it wasn’t for this they’d be hyping up cage knitting or mixed doubles ludo.

very interesting that bluestreak. until a couple of weeks ago i thought womens football only started in the 70,s. there,s a woman who attends our local over 50,s group who played in the 40,s and 50,s who way quite big in the game and told me in those days it was parks football and nowt else for em. know a couple who ref womens games and they say its come on leaps and bounds in just over 10 years where previously it was like doing an under 14,s kids game.

I agree it’s a tired cliched shite when people come out with stuff like that. The game needs an edge, sometimes on the pitch sometimes on the terraces sometimes both to be exciting. The Woman’s World Cup isn’t quite at the competitive level to have that edge yet.

Many of the games are decent to watch, and you see good technical players buts a way off justifying this sort of coverage, I reckon in 10/20 years it might when it’s an established professional sport in more countries because the standard has gone through the roof in the last twenty years and loads of young girls are bang into, want to play and most importantly can play the game these days which means it’s a sport that will progress.

5 things to improve Women's football, go....

Have them wear high heels.
Give the keepers oven gloves
Only birds with DD cups can play
Swap shirts at full time
Stop women commentating, give job to Andy Gray.

I have a decent little link to womens football.

My great Nana played in the first ever women’s international football match and scored the first goal... FACT.

Let the keepers take a feather duster out for the difficult to reach shots.

Tonight I saw a Japanese player dive like Suarez for penalty, and the Argies kick the shit of England and both teams get right in the refs face. Maybe it is proper football!? England have some really good players even though it was only 1-0 the only question was them scoring as Argentina didn’t look good enough to string three passes together to get in the box never mind score, they were properly tenacious though!!!

Still stick by that Cameroon were a proper disgrace, one lass even megged on an England player

VAR is just awful though it really needs sacking off as it’s ruining football, it will cause riots in the Premier League next season which will at least be funny.

Moving swiftly on - France against Brazil was a decent game of football. Would rather have had Renard in Pools back four than Louise Laing.

People say you can’t compare the men and women’s games but in both rounds of 16 in the World Cup England were met by diabolical shithousery and a piss weak ref, Cameroon women v Colombia men would be some contest!!
