BWFC in a bit of a rut, sort of game this that a defeat could see their manager end up getting the sack, can Pools take advantage of any possible unrest in their camp? or will BWFC come out battling for the manager and give us a game?.

1-1
Kabamba 25
764
200 Poolies

St Pauli v Erzgebirge Aue this weekend for me.

We’ll get trashed. It’ll be terrible. A double figures record defeat.
See other prediction thread for alternative opinion.

On Tuesday gone......Boreham Wood have signed prolific striker Ralston Gabriel from Isthmian League club Haringey Borough on an undisclosed-length "permanent" contract.

The 27-year-old has scored 25 goals this season - 12 for St Albans City and 13 for Haringey, who he rejoined in December.

He sounds as prolific as Nico Muir was at Hendon

Club record equalling goal from Kabamba I think I read last week that only one other player has scored in his first four games for the club.

Early days for Kabamba but looking like he will be a wanted man in the summer by a few clubs.
Hopefully Higgy can use his charm to get him at Pools on a permanent deal.

Got to make a lot of things like breaking records to bring back the positivity.

Kabamba is officially in the top two Pools strikers of all time in terms of goal ratios! That makes him better in his first 4 games than Boyd, Watson, Brown and Porter to name a few.

He’s a free agent in the summer I think*

*I do think I read that in The Mail though so his contract at Havant probably has another five years on it.

The thing you can rely on with Hignett is that he'll pick the most skillful players in the squad and encourage them to play football. He's also not afraid to put the young lads in. By all accounts Cunningham had a great game - who'd have thunk before kick off that a back three of Kioso- Cunningham- Anderson would keep a clean sheet?

Of course, Hignett's first real game in charge is away to Ebbsfleet on Tuesday, so let's not get carried away...

I'm happy to admit Anderson has been proving me wrong in the last few games, he's been Myles better :shifty: . If I ever bump into him I'll let him give me a dead leg or summat to make up for the criticism I've given him in the past.

Cunningham played well in his place, shame though as he looked a strong defender.

Really glad I went today. The bar at the club is not up to much. The crowds defy the National League. I think there was a bigger queue at Elstree Studios to get in andwatch ‘Britain’s got Dancing X-Factor on Ice’ than to see the footie. However, they made the wrong choice. Fabulous football and both sides had their chances. We took ours, they missed theirs. I can’t wait for the next match

His official first time in charge will be when he loses .....in some people’s eyes. They’ll just class these games as pretendy kickabouts.

Its early days, but isnt it refreshing to have someone in charge who wants to attack and win games. The last two years, you would have thought we were playing teams of league 1 standard how scared we have been of them. Win two games this week and who knows.

Just attack for full game.
Bollocks to the last few managers defensive prioritys which just invites to much pressure on our defence..
A Ray of optimism now.

Whatever it is that Hignett's done he's managed to turn a group of players from looking like they'd rather be anywhere else, to looking like they're actually enjoying playing football again. Us fans have gone from turning up out of doom laden blind loyalty to looking forward to the next game. The loan players have helped massively but the biggest change, as others have pointed out, is we finally seem to be geared to attack rather than mired in a neurotic obsession with defence. Well done to all concerned.

I imagine most managers want to attack and all of them want to win games. Over the last couple of years I doubt any manager has said ‘take the lead and sit back’ the manager doesn’t make decisions on the ball for players but what he can do is instill confidence and self belief. The players know we should be doing better so maybe the mentality from them was wrong in matches.

We probably aren’t doing much different tactically we are playing the same system as Bates was get results with earlier in the season maybe just Hignett is creating a more positive environment and telling the players to enjoy it, it really can be that simple. Couple that with picking the right players in the correct positions and your getting somewhere. Whatever it is long may it continue.

I've only seen home matches but the approach to the games, and especially the way we start, has been massively different to the way it was under Harrison and Bates. We used to spend the first twenty minutes camped in our own penalty box, even against bang average sides, and seemed to only mount a meaningful attack once we had fallen behind. The whole team appears now to start further up the pitch. We still need a combative midfielder, but we no longer give the opposition midfield half the pitch to stroll around in. Whatever the system, the players now seem to buy into it and want to put a shift in, even those I'd just about given up on.

I admit I was probably the last person on the Bunker to give up on Matty Bates but he was a defender as a player and the sides he put out were set up first and foremost not to concede goals. This season Muir and James always looked isolated up front and he wouldn't play Hawkes behind them, even though Josh was a big part of the reason Pools got out of trouble when Bates was caretaker.

As for Richard Money, it was clear from all his wistful talk about the effectiveness of physically imposing sides in the National League that he hankered after a more 'direct' style and didn't think the current Pools' squad was big enough or strong enough to do well. He never looked like he was capable of getting the best out of the players at his disposal, and did everyone a favour by naffing off quickly, unlike the fat c*nt Dave Jones. Assuming he had a hand in getting Kabamba and Raines in, Money did at least do something to physically strengthen the side.

Hignett is attack minded, good at motivating players, likes to play football on the grass, not in the air, and is by a distance the best coach Pools have had in the last 5 years. He's still got to prove that he's a good manager as well as a coach, but there's no obvious reason why he can't do that with Pools over the next couple of seasons.
