in the 70's/early 80's pubs like the Touchdown and the Brus would be chocker most nights of the week. On weekends they would be heaving. Then came the town centre drinking culture, and residential pubs were on the start of their way out.

Oscars was the one place we never even considered going to.
We would do something like Park, Grange, Coble, Reef, Grange, Park, Twins.
We did have occasional forays to far flung places like the Traveller's, Hourglass, Marine.

Blackies, Stranton, etc., was late 60s for me.

who remembers Bobby Kerr in Oscars? Even though he played for Pools, he refused to be drawn into conversation about our beloved club. Mention the Mackems though, and that was it.....................................

We used to start at the Chester waiting out side for it to open then down town. Also remember the Vollies used to open at 4ish on a friday down churchstreet. Also used to go to the alma, and who remembers the DEVON, especially on a monday evening when the yackers used to come down. Seen some aggro in there in my time. Nice memories all gone now afraid

Yet I noticed when in town recently that the Brus had closed. How on earth did that come about then, when it was so popular?

Very depressing....and then there's the question of how the Catcote metamorphosed into the Shakespeare......words fail you a bit there

Beat me to it, grabec.

Although I'm probably talking 60's / 70's

Friday night used to be The Catcote (watch the group, if they were any good),
then down to the Park, then the Grange, Cobble Bar (or the Grand) and then Church Street
or the Claggy Mat.

As we matured, it became the RAFA, the Stranton, maybe one in the Blacksmiths ("the White House")
then the Greenside

Happy days

I really like the Brus Arms as a building, it will be a big shame if it gets knocked down. The scallywags have already stripped all the tiles off the roof, and no doubt there's nothing left inside to speak of.

I always thought the Gemini was all the rage among you oldies......

I can just about remember Buzz and Zoom, The Venue and Paradise Alley although I've never been there. It was more 42, The Wesley, POW and Shades if I was slumming it....... That would be ater a fw in the botle bar, huxters, yates, sports bar and the emporium.......
